Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash for homes from Leamington to Stratford, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
For Venetian plastering in Warwickshire, Zavoré sends its own applicators out from our Birmingham base to towns and villages right across the county. We lay lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash, tadelakt and microcement, and every job begins the same way, with photos of your walls and a sample made up in the colour you want.
Warwickshire runs right up to the edge of the West Midlands conurbation, so booking a survey before we put a price on anything is simple, whether you live in Rugby or in a village towards the Cotswolds.
Few counties pack so many building periods into a short distance. Royal Leamington Spa grew as a spa town, and its Regency and early Victorian terraces and villas, many with painted stucco fronts, line the Parade and the streets and squares around it. Inside they tend to have tall ceilings, deep cornices and old lime plaster that has moved a little over time.
Warwick is older still. Beside the castle you find medieval timber framing, such as the Lord Leycester Hospital at the West Gate, and much of the centre was rebuilt in brick and stone after a great fire swept through the town. Stratford upon Avon is famous for its timber framed houses, Shakespeare’s Birthplace among them, with Victorian and modern streets spreading out beyond the old core.
Kenilworth mixes cottages near the castle with leafy interwar and postwar roads. Rugby is a Victorian railway and engineering town, known for Rugby School, with brick terraces near the centre and large new estates on its outskirts. In the north, Nuneaton and Bedworth have the red brick housing of a mining and manufacturing past, while the villages of the south use the warm limestone of the Cotswold edge.
Many of these homes are listed or sit in conservation areas. If yours is one of them, it is worth talking to your council’s conservation officer early, and a breathable lime finish is usually the natural fit for the original walls.
We usually start with photos, which settle the simple questions, and then come out to survey. That visit covers what the walls are built from, their flatness, any cracking, damp or movement, how the room gets used and how we will get materials in and protect everything around them. If the walls need stripping or skimming first, or a damp problem needs solving, we say so before you commit.
You then approve a sample board in one of our 48 house colours or an NCS reference, and the price. After that we agree dates, and your material is tinted to the approved sample in Birmingham. For bigger jobs in the far south of the county, the work may be planned in blocks of days so that each coat follows the last without daily travel.
Parking in the older centres of Leamington, Warwick and Stratford can be tight, so mention any permit zones or narrow access when you get in touch. A warm, dry room helps the coats dry evenly, especially in old stone cottages that can be cool in winter. You can read how we approach every finish on our installations page.
Stratford and Leamington have plenty of hotels, restaurants and independent shops, and decorative walls need to stand up to daily use there. If you are drawing up a scheme for one, our page for designers and architects sets out what to include, and our article on commercial Venetian plaster covers wear and upkeep. For older interiors, see our guide to Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian coving. Other counties and towns are listed under every area we cover.
Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to every part of the county, from Nuneaton in the north to the villages around Shipston on Stour.
Usually Marmorino or a lime Venetian plaster. Both let the original walls breathe, and their character suits the proportions and mouldings of a Regency room.
Often, yes. Timber frames move and their walls are rarely flat, so a soft lime finish such as limewash tends to sit better than a high polish. We look closely at movement and damp at the survey first.
