A lacquered wall has a deep, glassy gloss that reflects the room like a polished car or a grand piano. Colour looks richer, light bounces further, and a small room suddenly feels jewel like. Zavoré applies high gloss lacquer to walls and ceilings by hand, built up coat by coat and polished to a mirror finish.
A high gloss lacquer finish is built up in many thin coats rather than one or two coats of gloss paint. Between coats the surface is rubbed down, so each layer goes on flatter than the last, and the final coat is polished to a depth of shine ordinary paint cannot reach. The result is a surface that looks almost wet, with colour that seems to sit beneath the gloss rather than on top of it.
Gloss paint from a tin, rolled or brushed onto a wall, gives a shine, but it shows every bump, roller mark and brush stroke underneath it. A lacquered wall is a system, preparation, filling, many coats and polishing, all aimed at a perfectly flat, reflective surface. That is why the walls are prepared so carefully first. High gloss shows everything, so the flatter the wall, the better the finish.
Deep colours, oxblood, bottle green, inky blue or black, lacquered to a shine that glows in candle and lamp light.
Cloakrooms, hallways, studies and snugs, where a reflective wall makes the space feel bigger and brighter.
A lacquered ceiling reflects the room back down and adds height and drama.
Lacquer also suits restaurants, bars, hotels and boutiques, where a high gloss wall gives a space instant glamour. It pairs well with gilding, cornice and panel mouldings and polished metal.
Gloss changes colour. A lacquered finish reads deeper and more saturated than the same colour in matt, and it reflects whatever is in the room, so we always make a sample in your chosen colour and sheen for you to see in your own light before the walls are started.
If you love a polished look but want more movement and depth in the surface, polished Venetian plaster gives a stone like sheen with soft variation. Lacquer is smoother, glossier and more uniform. Some rooms use both, lacquered joinery or ceilings with plastered walls. We do both and can help you choose.
A wall finished in many thin coats of high gloss lacquer, rubbed down between coats and polished, so the surface has a deep, mirror like shine that ordinary gloss paint cannot match.
Most sound interior walls can, but they must be properly prepared and made very flat first, because high gloss shows every bump and crack beneath it. We look at the walls before we quote.
A well applied lacquer gives a hard, wipeable surface that suits dining rooms, hallways and commercial interiors. We will talk you through care for the system we use.
Deep, rich colours look spectacular in gloss, but pale lacquers bring a soft glow to small or dark rooms. We make a sample so you can see the colour and the shine together.
It depends on the area, the condition of the walls and the level of gloss. Send us photos and measurements and we will give you a clear quote.
