Venetian plastering in Worcestershire

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash and clay plaster for Worcestershire homes, laid by our own applicators from Birmingham.

Zavoré carries out Venetian plastering in Worcestershire, sending our own applicators from Birmingham to homes and businesses from Kidderminster down to the Vale of Evesham. The finishes we lay include lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash, clay plaster and tadelakt. If you are thinking about it, start by sending us a handful of photos and the postcode, or by ordering a sample in your colour.

The north of the county borders Birmingham’s southern edge, which keeps a survey visit simple to arrange wherever in Worcestershire you live.

The buildings of Worcestershire, town by town

Worcester itself has a cathedral city mix. Friar Street keeps a run of timber framed buildings, Greyfriars among them, while the Georgian and Regency houses around Britannia Square show the later city in brick and stucco. Beyond them are Victorian terraces, then the newer homes and student housing that came with the university.

Great Malvern grew as a Victorian spa town, and its villas climb the slopes of the Malvern Hills, many of them built in the hard, mottled local stone. Droitwich Spa has its own salt and brine bath history. Kidderminster was the carpet town, with Victorian mills and terraces, and Bewdley, close by on the Severn, is a handsome Georgian riverside town.

In the south, Pershore has Georgian streets, Evesham sits among the orchards and market gardens of the vale, and Broadway is built of honey coloured Cotswold limestone. The north west has black and white timber framed farmhouses and cottages. Redditch, once known for needle making, was expanded as a new town, and Redditch and Bromsgrove now have large areas of modern family housing.

That spread matters for the finish. Stone and timber framed walls need to breathe and are rarely flat, Georgian townhouses often carry old lime plaster under layers of paint, and modern houses give us plasterboard that wants reinforcing at the joints.

Matching a finish to a Worcestershire home

  • Marmorino for Malvern villas and older stone houses, since a lime finish lets solid stone walls dry out, and a matt grain suits their gently uneven surfaces.
  • Limewash for Broadway cottages and timber framed farmhouses, where a thin, chalky, breathable colour respects the age of the building.
  • Venetian plaster for the reception rooms of Georgian townhouses in Worcester or Pershore, once the walls have been brought flat enough for a polished surface.
  • Clay plaster for converted barns and farm buildings, where a soft, earthy, natural surface feels right.
  • Microcement for bathrooms, kitchens and floors in the newer houses around Redditch and Bromsgrove.

Planning a Venetian plastering job in Worcestershire

Photos come first, along with rough room sizes. After that we visit to check the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, any movement, how the room will be used, and how materials get in. You will know at that stage if a wall needs stripping, skimming or a damp issue sorting out before any decorative coat goes on.

Choosing colour happens on a sample board, from 48 house colours or an NCS reference. Your approval of that board and of the price is what lets us fix a start date, and the plaster is then coloured to match the board at our Birmingham base. Larger jobs in the further corners of the county, such as Broadway or Tenbury Wells, may be organised in blocks of days, keeping our applicators on site from the first coat through to the last.

A few practical points. Hillside houses in Malvern often have steps or steep drives, and central Worcester has limited parking, so tell us about access in advance. Old stone cottages can be cold and slow to dry in winter, so steady background heat helps.

Supplies and courses for Worcestershire decorators

If your own decorator is doing the work, we tint and dispatch the plaster, primers and wax by tracked delivery to anywhere in the county. Decorators who want to add Venetian plaster to what they offer can train with us in Birmingham on our courses.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Worcestershire

How far into Worcestershire will your applicators travel?

Across the whole county. Our own team sets out from Birmingham, so Bromsgrove and Redditch are close by, and places further south and west are planned around a survey and agreed dates.

Which finish suits a stone villa in Great Malvern?

A breathable lime finish, usually Marmorino, because thick stone walls need to release moisture. We check for damp and loose plaster first and tell you if anything needs fixing.

Is Venetian plaster sensible for a Cotswold stone cottage in Broadway?

Limewash or Marmorino is often the better choice there. Cottage walls are seldom flat, and a polished Venetian plaster would show every dip, while a matt lime finish works with the character of the wall.

Can I order Venetian plaster to Worcester and use my own decorator?

Yes. We tint the material to the sample you approve and send it tracked, together with the base coats and wax.

Phone 07592 929191 any day from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 6pm, or email sales@zavore.co.uk with pictures of the walls, approximate measurements and the postcode, and we will come back to you with next steps.
