Breathable lime finishes for old Shropshire walls and smooth polished ones for new houses, coloured before they leave Birmingham and applied by our own people.
We offer Venetian plastering in Shropshire through our own applicators, who travel from our Birmingham base to Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Telford, Bridgnorth, Oswestry and the rural parishes between them. Zavoré lays lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash, microcement and tadelakt, and the first step is simply a few photos of your walls and your postcode, or an order for a sample board showing the shade you are leaning towards.
Shropshire covers a lot of countryside, so we plan the survey and the work carefully around where you are, rather than fitting your job between others.
Shropshire’s older towns are famous for timber framing. Shrewsbury sits inside a loop of the River Severn, with a medieval street plan, narrow passages known locally as shuts, black and white buildings and later Georgian brick townhouses. On its northern side, the Flaxmill Maltings at Ditherington is among the earliest iron framed buildings anywhere.
Ludlow, below its castle, has streets of Georgian fronts and timber framing, with Broad Street and the Feathers Hotel among the best known. Bridgnorth is split between High Town and Low Town on a red sandstone cliff, joined by a cliff railway. Church Stretton, under the Long Mynd, has Victorian and Edwardian villas from its days as a resort for walkers and visitors.
Telford is a very different place. It was built as a postwar new town, named after the engineer Thomas Telford, and much of its housing is modern, from the original estates to more recent developments. Inside its boundary lies the Ironbridge Gorge, a World Heritage Site, where Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge keep older brick and stone cottages climbing the valley sides.
Out in the countryside there are stone and brick farmhouses, timber framed cottages and barn conversions, many of them listed. Taken together, a Shropshire job could mean a soft, moving timber framed wall, a thick stone wall that has to breathe, or the plasterboard of a Telford home built in the last few decades.
Your photos help us answer the smaller questions before anyone travels. Then we survey the rooms, checking the substrate and how flat it is, cracks, damp and movement, how you use the room, and what access and protection we will need. If walls need skimming or stripping, or damp needs dealing with, we tell you before pricing the decorative work.
You choose your colour from 48 house colours or an NCS reference on a sample board. Once the sample and quote are agreed, dates follow, and we colour the plaster to that board at our Birmingham base so it arrives ready. For much of Shropshire we organise the job in blocks of days, so our applicators stay on site and lay each coat in sequence rather than going back and forth.
The old centres of Shrewsbury and Ludlow have narrow streets and limited parking, and rural lanes can be tight for a van, so please tell us about access early. Farmhouses and cottages can be cool and damp in winter, and gentle heat helps every coat dry. More about our work is on the Venetian plaster installation page.
If you would rather use a local decorator, we will colour match the plaster to your board and post it, with primers and wax, on a tracked service to any Shropshire address. Decorators who want to learn can book a course with us in Birmingham.
For reading before you decide, try lime plaster against Venetian plaster or microcement floors. We also have a separate page for Shrewsbury, and a full list showing every area we cover.

A breathable lime finish, most often limewash or a soft Marmorino. Timber frames move with the seasons, so a high polish on an uneven wall is rarely the right choice, and we check for movement at the survey.
Yes. It suits kitchens, bathrooms and floors in modern homes, as long as the base is sound and properly prepared, and wet areas are waterproofed first.
