Commercial walls live a harder life than domestic ones. Luggage, trolleys, chair backs, cleaning regimes and a thousand hands a week will find every weakness in a decorative surface. Venetian plaster can thrive in that environment, but only if it is specified for it. Here is what we tell designers and contractors who ask.
The look is negotiable; the duty is not. Circulation areas, stair cores and anywhere the public brushes past want the harder, sealed systems, with acrylic ranges earning their keep in the busiest zones. The softer, more romantic lime surfaces belong above dado height, behind reception desks, on ceilings and feature walls where hands rarely reach. A mixed specification is usually the intelligent one.
Decorative plaster is a multi-coat system with real drying times between coats. It cannot be compressed the way paint can, and pretending otherwise on the programme is how sites end up with cracked, rushed walls. Sequence it early, protect it once done, and it will outlast the first refit.
Ask how the surface repairs. A scuffed painted wall needs a decorator; a well-specified plaster wall can be locally revived without redoing the room, which is precisely why restaurants and hotels that think in decades keep choosing it. Ask for the care regime in writing, and make sure the cleaning contractor reads it.
Because we supply the material, install it and teach it, we can specify without guesswork and stand behind the result. See Installations for how we work, or call 07592 929191 with drawings and dates; we will tell you what is realistic before you commit a programme to it.
