Venetian plastering in Warwick

Marmorino, polished plaster and lacquered walls for Warwick homes, tinted in Birmingham to your approved sample and laid by our own applicators.

Zavoré carries out Venetian plastering in Warwick, from the old streets around the castle to the newer estates on the edge of town. We are based in Birmingham, we supply and install authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster and a full range of decorative finishes, and our own applicators travel to Warwick to lay them. Start with a sample board or send us photos of the rooms you are planning.

We price only after a survey, and in many cases a few photos help us prepare for it.

Warwick's townhouses, terraces and new estates

Warwick is the county town of Warwickshire, overlooked by its medieval castle on the River Avon. A great fire swept through the centre at the end of the seventeenth century, and the town was rebuilt in brick and stone. That is why Jury Street, High Street and Northgate Street are lined with handsome late Stuart and Georgian townhouses, many with tall rooms and generous staircases.

Some older buildings survived the fire. The Lord Leycester Hospital by the West Gate and the timber framed houses on Mill Street, below the castle, are among the best known. Much of the centre is a conservation area, and many houses are listed.

Beyond the old town, Victorian and Edwardian terraces stretch out through areas such as Emscote, and twentieth century semis fill the roads between Warwick and Leamington. More recently, large developments such as Chase Meadow and Warwick Gates have brought modern family homes, built with plasterboard and skimmed walls.

So a Warwick job can be a Georgian drawing room with old lime plaster that has moved a little over the centuries, or a new kitchen extension at Chase Meadow with walls that are perfectly true. The first suits a soft lime finish that allows for gentle undulation. The second can take a high polish, provided the board joints are reinforced and primed.

Finishes for Warwick properties

  • Marmorino for Georgian rooms in the old town, where breathable lime suits the original walls and its fine texture sits well alongside panelling and cornice.
  • Lacquered walls for a dining room or study in a period house, if you want deep colour with a rich sheen.
  • Polished plaster for open plan rooms in the newer homes of Chase Meadow and Warwick Gates, where flat walls let the polish show.
  • Microcement for showers, en suites and kitchen splashbacks, on a properly prepared, waterproofed surface.

In timber framed rooms we usually suggest limewash, which lets the frame and infill breathe.

How a Venetian plastering job in Warwick runs

Start by emailing photos, rough measurements and your postcode. We then survey the walls before pricing, covering substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, as well as how you use the room and what access and protection the work needs. If a wall needs skimming or stripping, or damp sorting out first, we tell you directly.

Once the sample and price are approved, we set dates. Your plaster is tinted in Birmingham to match the approved sample, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference, before it leaves for Warwick. We lay it in thin coats, each drying before the next, so it helps if building work is complete, fresh plaster is dry and the room is kept reasonably warm.

Parking in the old town is limited, so let us know early about permits or loading. If your house is listed, find out what consent the work needs before we start. More on each finish is on our installations page.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Warwick

Do you lay Venetian plaster in Warwick yourselves?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to Warwick. We survey the walls, then agree dates once you have approved a sample and the price.

What finish suits a Georgian townhouse on Jury Street or High Street?

Marmorino or limewash, both breathable lime finishes, suit old walls well. Many of these houses are listed, so check what consent you need first.

Can polished plaster go on the walls of a new house at Chase Meadow?

Yes. New build walls are usually flat, and with the plasterboard joints reinforced and the right primer, they take a polished finish well.

Can I use Venetian plaster alongside original panelling?

Yes. We plaster the wall areas and leave the joinery untouched, protecting it during the work. The survey is the time to point out anything delicate.
