Lime finishes for Stratford's timber framed and stone buildings, and polished Venetian plaster for modern rooms, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own team.
Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Stratford upon Avon, in the town and the villages along the Avon valley. We supply and install authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash, tadelakt and other decorative finishes, and our own applicators travel from our Birmingham base to lay them. Choosing a colour starts with a sample board, and a few photos of the rooms tell us a lot about what the walls will need.
Every job begins with a survey, so that the finish we recommend is the right one for the building in front of us.
Stratford upon Avon is best known as Shakespeare's birthplace, and its centre still has a striking number of timber framed Tudor buildings, from his birthplace on Henley Street to Hall's Croft in the Old Town. Mixed in with them are Georgian brick townhouses and Victorian buildings, and much of the centre lies within a conservation area with many listed buildings.
Out from the middle, Victorian and Edwardian streets give way to interwar houses and then to the newer estates on the edges of town. In Shottery, Anne Hathaway's Cottage is a reminder of the thatched, timber framed cottages found in the villages around Stratford, and to the south the countryside runs towards the Cotswolds, with its stone houses.
Tourism shapes the town as well. Hotels, restaurants, bars and holiday lets all need interiors that look good and stand up to busy use, while private homes range from listed cottages to modern family houses.
For a decorative plaster that means a real spread of surfaces. A timber framed room with wattle and daub or lime infill needs a breathable finish that will move with it. A Cotswold stone cottage has thick, solid walls that also need to breathe. A modern house or hotel refit usually has flat plasterboard, ready for a polished finish once the joints are reinforced and primed.
Send photos, rough measurements and the postcode, and we can often answer small questions from those alone. The survey then covers the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the room will be used, and how we will get in and protect the space. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp repair before the finish, we will say so openly.
Dates are agreed after the sample and the price are approved. The plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves Birmingham, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference. Each thin coat needs to dry before the next, so other trades should be out of the room and new plaster dry. Old buildings can be cold, so keeping the heating on gently helps.
Parking in the centre is limited and the streets get busy, so tell us early about permits or loading. For a listed building, check what consent you need before work starts. Our Venetian plaster installation page has more detail.
For commercial and hospitality spaces, a finish that is easy to maintain and repair matters as much as how it looks. Our article on restaurant walls that last covers the choices, and designers and architects can read how we work on our specification page. If you prefer your own decorator, we sell the materials tinted to your colour and send them tracked, and our courses in Birmingham teach the finish. You can also see every area we cover.
Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to Stratford and the surrounding villages. We survey first, then agree dates once you approve a sample and price.
Limewash or Marmorino, because both are lime and let old frames and infill breathe. Listed buildings can need consent for internal changes, so check with the council before you book.
Yes, chosen carefully. A well laid and waxed finish is easy to clean, and small marks can be repaired. We talk through wear and upkeep before you decide.
Yes. Tadelakt on a properly prepared and waterproofed wall suits a shower, whereas Venetian plaster does not belong inside one.
