Breathable lime plaster, Marmorino and limewash for Hereford's older walls, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators in planned blocks of days.
Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Hereford and the countryside around it, from the city streets to farmhouses and black and white villages. We are a Birmingham based supplier and installer of authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster and other decorative finishes, and our own applicators travel out to do every installation. Ordering a sample board is a sensible first step, alongside a few photos sent to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Hereford is one of the longer journeys from our Birmingham base, so jobs here are organised in blocks of days. Our applicators stay on the job until the coats are laid in their proper order, instead of driving back and forth.
Hereford is a cathedral city on the River Wye. The cathedral, built of the local red sandstone, holds the Mappa Mundi and a chained library, and the streets around it keep Georgian townhouses and older buildings in a conservation area. In High Town stands the Old House, a Jacobean timber framed building that is now a museum.
Beyond the centre, Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas line the roads leading out of the city, followed by interwar and postwar housing and newer estates on the outskirts. Across the county, Herefordshire is known for its black and white timber framed villages, such as Weobley, Pembridge and Eardisland, and for stone farmhouses and converted barns.
Those older buildings have something in common. Their walls are solid, often thick, sometimes damp at the base, and built with materials that rely on being able to dry out. Lime is the traditional partner for them. An acrylic look alike forms a film over the surface, which suits a modern wall but can trap moisture in an old one. Barn conversions add another layer, often mixing old masonry with new studwork and plasterboard in the same room.
Inside a shower we use tadelakt or microcement on a waterproofed wall, never Venetian plaster.
Photos and rough measurements, with the postcode, let us answer early questions and plan the survey. At the survey we look at the substrate, how flat and sound it is, any cracks, damp or movement, how the room is used, and the access and protection the job needs. Where a wall needs damp dealing with, or skimming or stripping, before a decorative finish, we explain that plainly.
Once you sign off the sample and the price, we agree the dates and the block of days the job will take. Material is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves Birmingham, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference. In old buildings, cold and damp rooms slow the drying of each coat, so steady background heat makes a real difference.
Rural lanes and farm tracks can make access awkward for a van, so let us know about narrow approaches or where we can park. Our limewash installation page explains that finish in more detail.
Many owners of older Herefordshire houses already work with a local builder or decorator they trust. We can tint the plaster or limewash to your colour and send it by tracked delivery, and decorators can learn to apply it on our Venetian plaster courses in Birmingham. Regular buyers can open a trade account, and our UK page shows every area we cover.

Yes. Our own applicators come from Birmingham, and because it is further out we book the work as a block of days, so every coat is laid in sequence.
Limewash or Marmorino. Both are lime, so they let old timber and infill breathe. If the cottage is listed, find out what consent the work needs first.
Yes. The two need different preparation. Plasterboard needs reinforced joints and the right primer, and old masonry is better with a breathable lime finish, so we plan each wall on its own terms.
The cause of the damp needs fixing first. We will tell you plainly if that is the case at the survey, so the new finish is not spoilt.
