Lime Venetian plaster, limewash and Marmorino for Derbyshire homes, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Derbyshire for stone cottages, farmhouses, mill town terraces, Georgian townhouses and new homes across the county. We supply authentic Italian lime based plaster, our own applicators travel from our Birmingham base to lay it, and the colour is tinted before it leaves us. Order a sample board to start, or email photos and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Derbyshire has more variety in its buildings than most counties, and the stone is the first thing to understand.
The Peak District covers much of the north and west of the county. In the White Peak, around Bakewell and Wirksworth, houses and field walls are built of pale limestone. In the Dark Peak to the north, villages and farms use darker gritstone. Either way, thick stone walls, deep window reveals and uneven surfaces are normal, and in exposed upland settings the houses can be cold and damp.
The county also has a strong industrial story. The Derwent Valley is home to some of the earliest factory mills in the world, around Cromford and Belper, and the Derwent Valley Mills are a World Heritage Site. Rows of mill workers’ cottages and former mill buildings, some turned into homes and offices, are part of the scenery.
Buxton is the county’s Georgian spa town, with the Crescent and a fine Opera House, and Matlock Bath and Bakewell have their own period streets. In towns such as Glossop at the edge of the Peak, Victorian mill terraces climb the hillsides. In the south and east, around Derby and Chesterfield, red brick terraces and villas, interwar suburbs and new estates take over. We have a separate page on Venetian plastering in Derby, and you can see every area we cover for the rest.
All of this means a plastering job in Derbyshire is rarely a flat, modern box. It may be a wall of rubble stone, lime plaster over brick, or new board alongside it.
You send photos, rough measurements and the postcode, and we survey the walls before pricing. We check the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how rooms are used, access and what needs protecting. Many old stone houses need a damp problem understood before any finish goes on, and we say plainly if a wall needs stripping or fixing first.
When the sample and price are signed off, we agree dates. Derbyshire is generally away from our Birmingham base, so the work is planned in blocks of days, with the team staying on the job and laying each coat in order. The plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves Birmingham, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference.
Remote houses have access to think about, such as narrow lanes and long drives, so tell us early. Cold rooms slow drying, so keep the heating on gently. Our Venetian plaster installation page has the full list of finishes.
If you already have a decorator, we send plaster, base coats and wax by tracked delivery. For decorators wanting the skill, our courses run in Birmingham. Our guide to lime or acrylic Venetian plaster explains why breathable lime suits stone walls.
Yes. We survey first, check for damp, and usually suggest a breathable lime finish such as limewash or Marmorino rather than a sealed coating.
Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham across Derbyshire, and we plan larger jobs in blocks of days.
Yes, once the walls are sound and flat. Converted mills vary, so we survey each surface and then recommend a finish such as concrete effect or Marmorino.
