Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and concrete effect for Derby homes and businesses, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Derby for houses, flats, restaurants and offices across the city. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to lay each finish, and the plaster is tinted to your approved colour before it leaves us. Start with a sample board, or email photos of the walls and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Derby has a long industrial history and a good deal of fine architecture to go with it. Each part of the city asks for a slightly different approach.
Derby’s centre has a cathedral, a Cathedral Quarter and Friar Gate, a long street of Georgian houses that is among the best known in the city. Many of those townhouses are now offices, flats or restaurants, with fine plaster ceilings and proportions that suit a lime finish.
Derby was an early centre of industry. Silk mills on the Derwent are part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, and the Silk Mill is now a museum. Darley Abbey, along the river, has its own mill buildings and workers’ housing. The Midland Railway shaped the city too, and Derby remains a major railway town, with Rolls Royce and engineering across the city.
Streets of Victorian and Edwardian red brick terraces fill the districts around the centre, built for railway and factory workers. Larger Victorian villas can be found along roads such as Burton Road and Uttoxeter New Road, and Derby Arboretum, one of the first public parks, sits among terraces and villas. Beyond come Allestree, Mickleover and Chaddesden, which are mostly interwar, postwar and later suburbs.
That gives us a wide set of walls. Georgian and Victorian walls can be old brick with lime plaster, ideal for breathable finishes. Former mills and warehouses can be brick, iron and concrete. Suburban homes and new builds tend to be plasterboard.
We start with photos, rough measurements and your postcode. For a full installation we survey first, looking at the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, how the room is used, access and protection. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp fault fixing first, we say so plainly.
When the sample and price are signed off, we agree dates. Because Derby is away from our Birmingham base, a larger job is planned in blocks of days, so the applicators stay on the job and lay each coat in order. The plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves Birmingham, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference.
In listed Georgian houses, check any consents needed with the local planning team before you book. Our Venetian plaster installation page explains what we lay, and our guide to lime plaster and Venetian plaster helps with older walls.
Friar Gate and the Cathedral Quarter have many professional offices and hospitality spaces, and designers working on them can find detail on our designers and architects page. Our article on commercial Venetian plaster covers what to expect, and you can see every area we cover too.
Marmorino is a good fit, because it is lime based and breathable and its soft sheen suits period plaster. We survey first and tell you plainly about any repairs needed.
