Venetian plastering in Nottinghamshire

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid across Nottinghamshire by our own applicators.

Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Nottinghamshire, from city townhouses to village farmhouses. We supply authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, and our own applicators travel from Birmingham to lay it, along with Marmorino, limewash, tadelakt, microcement and other decorative finishes. To begin, order a sample board or email photos, rough measurements and the postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.

The county is large and varied, so this page covers the main kinds of building you will find across it, and what each one asks of a decorative finish.

The buildings of Nottinghamshire

Nottingham itself is the biggest source of work. The Lace Market is a district of tall Victorian warehouses and factories from the days of the lace trade, and many have become offices, restaurants and apartments with generous ceilings. Nearby, The Park Estate is a leafy area of Victorian villas laid out on the old castle park. Over the Trent, West Bridgford is full of Edwardian and Victorian red brick family houses.

Out in the county the character changes. Newark on Trent and Southwell are old market towns with Georgian houses and a long history, Southwell being home to its minster. Around Sherwood Forest there are brick built villages and farm conversions. The former coalfield towns, such as Mansfield and Hucknall, are made up of Victorian and twentieth century brick terraces and a great many interwar and postwar semis. Worksop, in the north, sits near the large country estates known as the Dukeries.

So the walls are as varied as the map. A Georgian townhouse in Newark has old lime plaster that likes to breathe. A terrace in Mansfield may have sound but uneven plaster that needs levelling. A new estate house on the edge of any of these towns is plasterboard, with joints that must be reinforced before anything decorative goes on.

Finishes that suit Nottinghamshire homes

  • Marmorino for Georgian houses in Newark and Southwell and for Victorian villas on The Park Estate. It is lime based, so older walls can go on breathing, and its fine texture is forgiving on surfaces that are not dead flat.
  • Polished plaster for Lace Market apartments and new builds, where a high ceiling and good light suit a deep, smooth sheen.
  • Limewash for farmhouses and village cottages around Sherwood Forest, where a soft, cloudy wall feels right beside exposed beams and brick.
  • Clay plaster for bedrooms and snugs in period houses, with a calm, matt surface.
  • Microcement or tadelakt for showers and wet rooms, since Venetian plaster is not what we recommend inside a shower.

Venetian plaster comes in 48 house colours, or any NCS reference, and you can browse them on the colours page.

How a Nottinghamshire installation runs

Photos and measurements come first, and small questions can often be answered from those alone. Before we price an installation we survey the walls, looking at the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, how the room is used, and access and protection. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem fixing first, we say so plainly.

Dates are agreed once the sample and the price are signed off. Your plaster is tinted to the approved sample before it leaves Birmingham. For work in this county, and especially for larger jobs, we plan the installation in blocks of days so the applicators stay on site and lay each coat in order, instead of travelling back and forth.

It helps if electrics, joinery and any skimming are finished and dry first, and a cold, damp room will slow drying, so a farmhouse that has stood empty benefits from gentle heating beforehand. See our Venetian plaster installation page for the full list of finishes we lay.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Nottinghamshire

Do you travel across Nottinghamshire for Venetian plastering?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to jobs in the city and the wider county. Larger jobs are planned in blocks of days, with dates agreed once you have signed off the sample and the price.

Which finish suits an old brick house near Sherwood Forest?

A breathable lime finish such as limewash or Marmorino usually suits solid brick walls best. Acrylic look alikes form a film, which is a poorer match for an older wall.

Can Venetian plaster go on a Lace Market apartment wall?

Yes, provided the wall is flat and sound. Polished finishes show every dip, so a survey checks flatness first and we say plainly if skimming is needed.

Can I buy the plaster for my own decorator in Nottinghamshire?

Yes. We tint it to your chosen colour and send it by tracked delivery, together with the other materials your decorator needs.

To talk about your walls, call 07592 929191, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, or email sales@zavore.co.uk with photos and your postcode. A sample board is the best place to start choosing a colour.
