Venetian plastering in Northamptonshire

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid across Northamptonshire by our own applicators.

Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Northamptonshire for homes, restaurants, shops and offices. We are based in Birmingham, and our own applicators drive to site to lay authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster and our other decorative finishes. Order a sample board in the colour you like, or email photos and a postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk, and we will take it from there.

Northamptonshire is a county of ironstone villages, shoe making towns and newer growth, and each asks something different of a wall finish.

Houses and buildings across Northamptonshire

The county is often called the land of spires and squires, and its villages are built from a warm, brownish ironstone and from limestone. Stately houses such as Althorp sit among them, and market towns like Oundle, Brackley and Towcester keep stone frontages along their main streets. A stone cottage or a rectory in these places has thick walls and usually old lime plaster inside.

Northampton, Kettering, Wellingborough and Rushden grew on the boot and shoe trade. That left them with long rows of Victorian and Edwardian brick terraces, and some old factory buildings that now hold flats and offices. Corby is different again, a postwar new town built around its steelworks, with housing from the 1950s onwards. Around all of them are modern estates, mostly built with plasterboard walls.

The difference between a stone rectory and a new estate house matters. The first needs a breathable finish. The second needs reinforced joints and the right primer before a polished surface can be considered.

Finishes that suit these houses

  • Limewash for ironstone cottages and farmhouses, where a soft mottled colour suits thick, slightly uneven walls.
  • Marmorino for the town houses of Oundle, Brackley and Northampton, and for Victorian terraces with solid brick walls, since lime lets the wall breathe.
  • Polished plaster for flat walls in apartments, conversions of old shoe factories and newer homes, once the base is sound.
  • Concrete effect for restaurants, shops and offices that want an industrial feel.
  • Microcement for bathrooms and kitchens, because we do not recommend Venetian plaster inside a shower.

Whatever you choose, the colour can be any of our 48 house shades or an NCS reference.

What to expect when we work in Northamptonshire

Tell us about the property and send some photos, and we will say what we can from there. For an installation we survey first, looking at the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, access and the way the room is used. If a wall wants skimming, stripping or a damp issue resolved, we explain that before quoting.

Once you have signed off the sample and price, we book dates. Your plaster is tinted to the approved sample in Birmingham before it travels. Larger jobs here are planned in blocks of days, so the applicators can stay and lay each coat in sequence. Rooms should be dry, with other trades finished, and a cold house dries coats more slowly, so keep some gentle heat on.

There is more about the finishes we lay on our Venetian plaster installation page, and a guide to Venetian plaster on plasterboard for new homes.

Buying plaster or learning to apply it

If your decorator would rather do the work, we can supply tinted plaster by tracked delivery. Courses in Birmingham teach the craft, and trade accounts help firms who order often. Interior designers and architects can look at our specification help, and the full list of areas is under every area we cover. In the county, we also have a page for Northampton.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Northamptonshire

Can you plaster a stone cottage in a Northamptonshire village?

Yes. Solid stone walls suit a breathable lime finish such as limewash or Marmorino, and we survey the wall first to check for damp and for old plaster that needs repair.

Is Venetian plaster a good idea in a converted shoe factory?

It can look excellent, as long as the walls are flat and sound. Polished finishes show every dip, so we check flatness before we price the work.

Do your applicators travel to Northamptonshire?

Yes. They travel from Birmingham, and bigger jobs are planned in blocks of days so the same people stay on site while each coat is laid.

Do you sell plaster to Northamptonshire decorators?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it by tracked delivery, and decorators can also train with us in Birmingham.
