Venetian plaster, microcement, Marmorino and concrete effect for Northampton homes and conversions, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré handles Venetian plastering in Northampton for homeowners, landlords, designers and developers. We are a Birmingham based business that supplies and installs authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster along with microcement, Marmorino, concrete effect and many other decorative finishes, and the work is carried out by our own applicators, who travel to you. To get started, order a sample board in your colour or email pictures of the space to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Northampton has an unusually broad mix of buildings, from converted factories to brand new estates, and each one needs its own preparation.
Northampton made its name making boots and shoes, and the town still shows it. Around the centre, the Boot and Shoe Quarter is a conservation area of red brick factories and workshops, many of them now converted into flats with tall windows, exposed brick and big open rooms. The Victorian Gothic Guildhall stands in the middle of town, and at 78 Derngate you can see the terraced house that Charles Rennie Mackintosh remodelled.
Spreading out from the centre are the Victorian and Edwardian streets of areas such as Abington, Kingsthorpe and St James, with red brick terraces and larger bay fronted villas. These have solid walls, high ceilings and original lime plaster that has been patched many times.
From the late 1960s Northampton was expanded as a new town, adding large estates to the east and south, and growth has carried on since with newer developments such as Upton on the western side. Homes from these decades are typically built with block or timber frame and lined with plasterboard, so they give a flat base but need the joints dealt with properly.
We usually begin with photos and rough measurements by email, which can be enough to say whether an idea is realistic. A survey follows before any installation is priced. On it we check the substrate, the flatness, cracks, damp and signs of movement, what the room is for, and the access and protection the work will need.
We will be direct if a wall has to be skimmed or stripped, or if damp needs curing, before decorative plaster can go on. After you sign off a sample and a price, the dates are agreed, and your plaster is tinted to that sample in Birmingham. A job in Northampton is organised as a block of days, so the applicators stay on until each coat has been laid in its turn rather than coming and going.
In converted factory blocks, building managers often set rules about lifts, loading bays and working hours, so it saves time to share those with us early. You can read about the full process on our Venetian plaster installation page, or see our microcement installation service.
If you are converting a factory or fitting out show homes, we can talk through a finish that suits the budget and the use of each space, and designers will find specification support on our specify page. Restaurants, salons and offices are welcome to ask too. For people who prefer their own decorator, we supply the materials tinted to colour with tracked delivery, and our courses in Birmingham teach the technique.
