Venetian plastering in Lincolnshire

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid across Lincolnshire by our own applicators.

If you are looking for Venetian plastering in Lincolnshire, Zavoré can help with both the plaster and the installation. We are based in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel to lay authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash, tadelakt, microcement and our other decorative finishes. A sample board is the easiest first step, and photos sent to sales@zavore.co.uk will often answer your early questions.

Lincolnshire is one of the biggest counties in England, with a cathedral city, limestone towns, fenland and a long coast, so the buildings differ a good deal from one end to the other.

What we would be plastering across Lincolnshire

Lincoln is the natural starting point. Its cathedral stands on the hill above the city, and the streets that climb towards it, around Steep Hill and Bailgate, are lined with old stone and brick buildings, many of them listed. Below the hill, the Victorian terraces and the later suburbs spread out across the flatter ground.

Stamford, at the southern edge of the county, is a town of pale limestone, and a good deal of it lies within a conservation area. Grantham, Sleaford and Louth are market towns with Georgian and Victorian frontages. Louth sits at the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, where brick and pantile farmhouses and barns are common. Boston and Spalding, on the edge of the fens, are largely brick towns, and the coast has its Victorian seaside resorts, such as Skegness and Cleethorpes, with rows of terraces and guest houses.

Across all of this there are plenty of farmhouses, converted barns and village houses, plus modern estates on the edges of the larger towns. An old limestone or brick wall that has been patched with different materials over the decades is a very different surface from a new plasterboard one, and the finish should follow the wall.

Finishes that work in Lincolnshire homes

  • Limewash for farmhouses, barn conversions and cottages in the Wolds and the villages, where a soft, chalky surface sits well with old brick and stone.
  • Marmorino for the Georgian and Victorian rooms of Lincoln, Stamford and Louth. Because it is lime based, it lets solid walls breathe, which an acrylic coating does not.
  • Venetian plaster in a polished finish for newer houses and apartments with flat, plasterboard walls.
  • Cornice and coving where a period room has lost its mouldings, or where a new room would suit them.
  • Tadelakt for bathrooms on a properly waterproofed wall, as we would not put Venetian plaster in a shower.

Planning a job in Lincolnshire

Because the county is large, most jobs here are planned in blocks of days. Our applicators stay on site through the work and lay each coat in turn, which suits a decorative finish better than a series of separate visits from Birmingham.

Before we give an installation price we survey the walls, checking the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, as well as how the room is used and what needs protecting. You will hear plainly if a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem sorted first. When you have approved your sample and the price, we agree the dates. The plaster is tinted to the approved colour before it leaves Birmingham, and you can choose from 48 house colours or any NCS reference on our colours page.

Farmhouses and barns can be cold and damp for part of the year, and a cold room dries slowly, so heating the space gently before and during the work helps. Rural properties are not always easy to find, so a postcode and a note about access helps us plan.

Materials, training and designers

Some customers prefer to use a local decorator, and that is fine. We will tint the materials and send them by tracked delivery to your Lincolnshire address. Our Venetian plaster courses are held in Birmingham for anyone who wants to learn, and trade accounts suit regular buyers. Architects and designers can start at our specification page.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Lincolnshire

Do you install Venetian plaster in Lincolnshire?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham and, because of the distances involved, we plan the work in blocks of days so they can stay on site until it is finished.

What suits a stone house in Stamford?

A breathable lime finish such as Marmorino or limewash is the usual match for a solid stone wall. We would survey the wall first, since older plaster often needs repair before a decorative coat goes on.

Is Venetian plaster suitable for a barn conversion in the Wolds?

It can be, if the walls are dry and sound. Limewash or Marmorino often looks natural against exposed brick and beams, and we check for damp at the survey stage.

Can you send plaster to Lincolnshire for my own decorator?

Yes. We tint it to the colour you choose and send it by tracked delivery with everything the decorator needs to apply it.
