Breathable lime plaster, Marmorino and limewash for Chichester's Georgian, Victorian and flint built homes, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Chichester and the villages around the harbour and the Downs. From our base in Birmingham we supply authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash and other decorative finishes, and our own applicators travel down to install them. To get going, email photos and rough measurements to sales@zavore.co.uk, or order a sample board in the shade you are considering.
Chichester jobs are organised as a block of days so the applicators can stay put and keep each coat moving in order, instead of splitting the work across separate trips.
Chichester still follows the plan the Romans gave it, with North, South, East and West Streets meeting at the Market Cross and a long circuit of city walls around the centre. The cathedral, with its separate bell tower, sits in the south west quarter, and much of the area inside the walls is a conservation area full of listed buildings.
The Pallants, in the south east quarter, is known for its eighteenth century brick townhouses, Pallant House among them, and Georgian frontages run along many of the main streets. Some of those fronts hide older structures behind. Outside the walls, Victorian terraces and villas fill streets such as those in Somerstown and Whyke, and later suburbs and new estates have spread around the edges of the city.
Beyond the city, harbour villages such as Bosham and Fishbourne are built largely of flint and brick, and the downland villages to the north are similar. So we see tall Georgian rooms with old lime plaster, flint cottages with damp prone walls that need to breathe, and newer homes with plasterboard. Each asks for something different.
For a listed property, we suggest asking the planning authority about consent before changing historic plaster, and sharing any conditions with us early.
The process begins with photos, rough measurements and your postcode, and smaller questions can usually be answered from those. For the installation price we survey the walls, assessing the substrate, how flat the surfaces are, cracks, damp, movement, the way the room is used, access and protection. If something needs fixing first, such as a damp wall, old paint to strip or a skim to flatten, we will be straightforward about it.
When the sample and price are approved we set the dates, and the plaster is tinted to your sample in Birmingham before setting off. Lime finishes take longer to dry in cold, damp rooms, so gentle heating through the job helps. It also helps if building work, electrics and joinery are complete before we start.
Inside the city walls, parking and loading are limited, so please let us know about any permits or access points. Our Venetian plaster installation page and the limewash installation page explain more.
If you are specifying finishes for a period restoration or a new home around Chichester, our specification page covers samples and colour matching to any NCS reference. Builders using their own decorators can order the materials tinted and sent by tracked delivery, and our training courses in Birmingham teach the techniques.

Yes. We plan access and parking at survey, as space in the historic centre is tight, and our applicators then travel from Birmingham for the agreed block of days.
Limewash or Marmorino, because both are lime based and breathable. Flint walls need to release moisture, and an acrylic coating that forms a film can hold it in.
Yes. We install cornice and coving, and we can match a profile to suit the period of the room, alongside the decorative finish on the walls.
For an installation, yes, because the walls decide how much preparation is needed. Simple questions can often be answered from photos before that.
