Venetian plastering in Pembrokeshire

Lime Venetian plaster, limewash and Marmorino for Pembrokeshire towns, cottages and holiday lets, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.

Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Pembrokeshire for homes, holiday lets, guest houses and hospitality spaces. We supply and install authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster. Our own applicators travel from our Birmingham base, and your plaster is tinted to the approved sample before it goes on the van. Send a few photos, rough room sizes and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk, or order a sample board to begin.

Pembrokeshire is a long way from Birmingham, so the work is arranged in blocks of days. The applicators stay for the duration and lay the coats in order, which is better for the finish than a stop start job.

The houses and towns of Pembrokeshire

The county is mostly coast and countryside, with a National Park wrapped around much of its shoreline. The towns are small, old and distinctive.

Tenby is the best known, a walled medieval town on a headland, with a harbour and rows of Georgian and Victorian houses, many of them painted in soft seaside colours. Pembroke has its castle and one long main street of old frontages. Haverfordwest, the county town, sits on the Cleddau with a ruined castle above and Georgian and Victorian townhouses around it. Pembroke Dock and Milford Haven grew up around naval and harbour trades, with terraces laid out in rows. Fishguard, Narberth and Saundersfoot each have their own village scale and character.

Beyond the towns are stone farmhouses, cottages with thick walls and small windows, converted barns and a very large number of holiday homes. Wind and salt are constant, and a damp spell can last for days. Old stone cannot dry through a sealed surface, so lime has a clear advantage on those walls. Newer houses and extensions are the opposite, with board and blockwork that need correct preparation.

We survey each wall on its own merits and pick the finish to suit, not the other way round.

Finishes that work in Pembrokeshire

  • Limewash for farmhouses and cottages, giving a soft, mineral finish that sits comfortably on rough stone and uneven plaster.
  • Marmorino for the better rooms of Georgian houses in Tenby and Haverfordwest, in a quiet colour that suits high ceilings.
  • Tadelakt for bathrooms, a waterproof alternative where Venetian plaster is not suitable.
  • Concrete effect for a modern extension attached to an old stone house, where you want a calm, contemporary contrast.
  • Polished plaster for new builds and hotel reception areas, once the walls have been made flat.

Planning a job in Pembrokeshire

Once we have photos and a room list, we survey if the job needs it. We check the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the room is used, and the way in for materials and protection. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a leak fixing first, we say so plainly.

The sample and price come next. After both are approved, we agree dates, and for holiday lets or small hotels we can talk through quieter periods in the calendar. Your colour, taken from 48 house colours or any NCS reference, is tinted in Birmingham. Lanes in the county can be narrow, so let us know early about parking and delivery routes. Rooms that stay cold dry slowly, so we discuss gentle heating.

Hospitality owners and designers can find help on our specification page, and every finish we install is listed on the installation page.

Materials, courses and further reading

If a local builder or decorator will apply the finish, we send tinted plaster, base coats and wax, tracked. People who want to learn can book one of our courses in Birmingham. The nearby city of St Davids has its own page, and you can see every area we cover.

Our article on commercial Venetian plaster is useful for hospitality, and choosing a Venetian plaster installer sets out what to ask.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Pembrokeshire

Do you work in Tenby?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to Tenby and anywhere else in the county. We plan the work in blocks of days and agree dates once the sample and price are approved.

Which finish suits a stone farmhouse near the coast?

Limewash or Marmorino, because both are lime based and breathable. We survey for damp first and say plainly if the walls need repair before decoration.

Can you decorate a holiday cottage between bookings?

We can plan dates with you around your calendar once the sample and price are agreed, so the work fits a quiet period where possible.

Can I buy the plaster and have a local builder apply it?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, together with base coats and wax.

Call 07592 929191, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, or email sales@zavore.co.uk with photos and your postcode. A sample board is a good place to start.
