Venetian plastering in North Wales

Lime Venetian plaster, limewash and Marmorino for the coast, the mountains and the border, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators in planned blocks of days.

Zavoré supplies and installs Venetian plastering in North Wales, from the coast at Conwy and Anglesey to the slate villages of Snowdonia and the border towns near Wrexham. Our plaster is authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, our own applicators travel from Birmingham to lay it, and each batch is tinted to your approved sample at our Birmingham base. Photos, rough measurements and a postcode sent to sales@zavore.co.uk are enough to start, as is a sample board.

Most North Wales jobs sit well away from Birmingham, so we plan them as consecutive days on site. The team lays every coat in order and does not leave in the middle of the job.

The buildings of North Wales

North Wales takes in six counties, Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. Housing changes sharply from one to the next.

On the north coast, Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are Victorian seaside towns, full of tall villas, guest houses and terraces. Conwy is a walled town beneath its castle, and Caernarfon and Beaumaris have castles and old streets of their own. Bangor, the university city, has Victorian houses climbing its hills. In Snowdonia and on the slate belt, terraced workers’ cottages and chapels were built from stone and slate, many of them now holiday homes. At the far eastern end, the area near Wrexham and Mold shares more with the English border, with Victorian terraces, interwar houses and large modern estates.

One landmark is worth mentioning, because it speaks to the plaster itself. Portmeirion, near Porthmadog, is a village built in an Italianate style, and its coloured, rendered walls show how well Mediterranean finishes can sit in a Welsh landscape.

The weather applies to all of it. North Wales is wet, and old walls take on moisture. A lime finish allows that moisture to leave, while a sealed coating does not. Our survey checks damp, movement and cracks before we price anything.

Finishes that suit North Wales properties

  • Limewash for slate cottages, farmhouses and stone walls, where the surface should breathe and the colour should look natural.
  • Marmorino for Victorian seaside villas and townhouses, with a refined, marble like sheen that suits larger rooms.
  • Clay plaster for bedrooms and living spaces in cold, thick walled homes.
  • Polished plaster for newer homes and apartments, when the walls have been made flat.
  • Microcement for wet rooms, where Venetian plaster would be the wrong choice inside a shower.

How a North Wales job is organised

We begin with photos and a few details. A survey follows if needed, looking at the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, how rooms are used, and access and protection. If a wall must be skimmed, stripped or dried out first, we say so.

After the sample and price are approved we agree dates. Your colour, from the 48 house colours or any NCS reference, is tinted in Birmingham. Mountain roads and village lanes can be tight, so tell us about parking and unloading. Cold rooms dry slowly, and a house that is only heated at weekends needs a plan for the coats to dry properly.

Hospitality owners and designers can read our specification page, and all our installed finishes are on the installation page.

Buying plaster, learning the craft

If your builder or decorator will apply the finish, we tint the plaster and send it tracked with base coats and wax. If you want to learn, our courses run in Birmingham. Seaside readers may want our Llandudno page, and everyone can see every area we cover.

Background reading includes what Venetian plaster is and a guide to Italian plaster walls.

Questions about Venetian plastering in North Wales

Do you travel to North Wales for Venetian plastering?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham and plan the job as a block of days, so they stay on site and lay each coat in order.

Which finish suits a slate cottage in Snowdonia?

A breathable lime finish such as limewash is usually best, because thick stone walls need to dry. We survey for damp first.

Can you plaster a holiday home that is empty most of the week?

Yes, but drying needs a plan. We discuss heating and access before dates are agreed, because cold rooms dry slowly.

Can I order the plaster for a builder in North Wales?

Yes. We tint it to your approved colour and send it tracked with base coats and wax.

To talk to us, call 07592 929191, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, or email sales@zavore.co.uk with photos and your postcode. You can order a sample board first.
