Venetian plastering training for North Wales is taught at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham. Nothing runs in the region itself, so students from the coast, the mountains and the border towns come to Birmingham for a short, focused course.
Whether you work from a van in Conwy, run a decorating firm in Flintshire, manage a hotel in Llandudno or are simply tired of your day job, there is a course pitched at your level.
North Wales packs a lot of building types into a small area. Llandudno is a Victorian seaside resort with grand hotels and guest houses along its promenade, and Conwy is a medieval walled town with castle views. Further inland, Snowdonia has slate and stone cottages, and the border towns around Wrexham and Flintshire have Victorian terraces and more modern estates.
Portmeirion, the Italianate village on the coast, is a well known sign of how comfortably Mediterranean colour and plaster sit in a Welsh landscape. Venetian plaster draws on that same Italian tradition.
The visitor economy matters in North Wales. Hotels, restaurants, holiday cottages and spas need interiors that feel special, and a hand polished wall does that better than paint. Reception areas, bar fronts, spa walls and bathrooms all offer chances for a decorative plasterer.
Old walls of stone and slate suit breathable lime based plasters, while new builds and flat conversions suit polished plaster. For showers and wet rooms, tadelakt and microcement are the sensible finishes.
Each of the three courses is taught from 10am to 5pm, in groups of up to six students.
The Beginner Course is where you learn the foundations, from preparing a surface and applying base coats to burnishing Marmorino and polished plaster. The Advanced Course develops your range with artificial rock, stencil work, tinting and high gloss polishing. If you manage a property and have a very particular wall in mind, 1 to 1 Training can be shaped around it.
See the training page for dates and to register interest. Our article polished plaster courses in the UK gives more background.
Students come to the Academy by train or by car. Birmingham is in the centre of England, which is why it can serve students from many different regions.
North Wales is a large area, and where you start from changes how you travel, so we have not tried to give times here. What we can say is that a three or four day course needs a place to stay. Zavoré has a partner rate at a hotel near the Academy, and you quote Zavoré when you book. If you arrive by air or rail, you can ask for pickup with your booking. The price depends on the arrival point.
Colleagues from the same business can share a hotel and travel together.
You return with panels for a portfolio, a Zavoré certificate and trade pricing on Zavoré materials. A private course group and a helpline for life keep support close when your first job comes in.
Holiday and hospitality owners across the region may prefer one contractor who can handle painting and plaster finishes together. Advanced students get help to find, price and win a first paid decorative job.
Should you want the work installed for you, see Venetian plastering in North Wales. You can also order materials from the shop, with tracked UK delivery.
There is no course in North Wales. The Zavoré Academy teaches in Birmingham, and students from across North Wales travel there.
Yes. It gives walls depth and a hand finished look that paint cannot, which is why owners and decorators use it in reception areas, lounges and bathrooms.
A plasterer can start with the 3 day Beginner Course to learn how Venetian plaster differs from traditional work, or go to the 4 day Advanced Course if already working on site.
