Breathable lime plaster, limewash and Marmorino for the cottages and period buildings of Pembrokeshire, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in St Davids for cottages, holiday homes, guest houses and period houses. We supply authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, our own applicators travel from Birmingham to install it, and we tint it to the colour on your approved sample before it leaves our Birmingham base. Email sales@zavore.co.uk with photos of the walls and your postcode, or begin with a sample board.
St Davids sits at the far western end of Wales, so any installation is organised as a block of days on site. That way the same applicators lay each coat in order and are not travelling back and forth between layers.
St Davids is often described as the smallest city in the United Kingdom, and it is a very compact place. The cathedral sits low in its hollow beside the ruins of the Bishop’s Palace, and the streets of old stone buildings gather around Cross Square and the High Street. Much of what surrounds them is simple stone cottages, many of them rendered or painted, with thick walls and small windows.
Beyond the centre, the city meets the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Farmhouses, converted barns and holiday cottages spread out along the lanes towards the sea, and a good number of homes here are second homes or holiday lets. Listed buildings and conservation controls apply to parts of the city, so it is worth asking early whether your building falls under them.
Exposure is the common thread. Atlantic weather, salt in the air and long damp spells mean old walls have to be able to dry. Lime does that. A sealed coating over a damp stone wall does not. So our survey starts with moisture, cracks and movement, and we tell you straight if a wall needs repair first.
Choosing a colour from the full colour range is easiest with a board on the wall, since light by the coast changes a lot through a day.
First we talk through your photos and measurements. If the job needs a survey, we look at the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, how the rooms are used, and how we reach them. Narrow village streets and lanes can limit large vehicles, so tell us about parking and access early.
Then comes the sample and the price. Once both are signed off we agree dates, and for holiday lets we can aim for a quiet spell between bookings. The plaster is tinted in Birmingham before it travels, using one of the 48 house colours or an NCS reference. Cold rooms dry slowly, so we will discuss gentle heating during the work.
If a local builder or decorator will apply the finish, we can send plaster, base coats and wax tinted to your colour with tracked delivery to St Davids. Our courses run in Birmingham for anyone who wants to learn properly, and our Venetian plaster installation page explains the full service. See every area we cover.
Two guides worth reading are lime or acrylic Venetian plaster and choosing limewash colours.
Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham and work in a planned block of days, staying on the job so each coat goes on in the right order.
A breathable lime finish such as limewash or Marmorino. We survey first, because damp must be dealt with before any decorative layer is applied.
We can plan dates around your calendar once the sample and price are signed off, so the work fits a quiet spell where possible.
Not inside a shower. Tadelakt or microcement on a properly waterproofed wall is what we recommend for wet areas.
