Venetian plastering in Monmouthshire

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash for Monmouth, Abergavenny, Chepstow and the countryside, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.

Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Monmouthshire, from townhouses in Monmouth and Chepstow to farmhouses in the hills around Abergavenny. We supply authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, and our own applicators travel from Birmingham to lay it. The plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves our Birmingham base. Start by ordering a sample board, or email photos, rough measurements and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.

Larger jobs in the county can be planned in blocks of days, with the applicators staying on site so the coats follow one another in the right order.

Buildings across Monmouthshire and what they need

Monmouthshire runs along the English border, from the Severn estuary and the Wye Valley in the south to the edge of the Black Mountains in the north, and its housing is varied.

In the market towns you find the older, urban stock. Monmouth has Agincourt Square and the Shire Hall, and the Monnow Bridge with its medieval gate, with Georgian and Victorian townhouses on the streets around them. Chepstow, beside its castle and the River Wye, is similar, with Georgian and Victorian houses stepping up from the river. Abergavenny sits against the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and has Victorian terraces and villas as well as older cottages. Usk and Raglan are smaller, with village streets of stone and render.

In the countryside there are farmhouses, barns converted into homes, and the larger houses of old estates. Around Caldicot and the eastern edge of the county, newer estates were built for people who commute to Newport, Cardiff and Bristol, so plasterboard walls are as common as solid ones.

That mix decides everything. Georgian walls have lime behind them and want a breathable finish. A converted barn may combine exposed stone, new blockwork and board. A new house needs its joints reinforced and the right primer. We choose the finish after seeing the wall.

Finishes that suit Monmouthshire homes

  • Marmorino for Georgian and Victorian townhouse rooms, where a fine, lime based surface complements tall windows and original joinery.
  • Limewash for farmhouse kitchens, thick stone walls and barn interiors, where the finish needs to breathe and sit beside beams and flagstones.
  • Cornice and coving to restore or recreate ceiling mouldings in period rooms.
  • Polished plaster for new builds and extensions, once the walls are flat and the board has been properly prepared.
  • Microcement for shower rooms and wet rooms in barn conversions and new bathrooms.

How a Monmouthshire job runs

Send photos first. When a survey is needed we look at the substrate, flatness, damp, cracks and movement, how the room is used, and access and protection. If a wall needs stripping, skimming or a damp problem solved before decoration, we say so plainly.

With the sample and price agreed, we fix dates. Your colour, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference, is tinted in Birmingham to match the sample. Rural properties may have narrow lanes or long drives, so tell us about parking and unloading. Cold, damp rooms slow drying, which is worth remembering in stone houses that have stood empty.

Designers and architects working on country houses can read our specification page, and the whole range of work is on the Venetian plaster installation page.

Materials and courses

If a builder or decorator in the county will apply the finish, we send tinted plaster, base coats and wax with tracked delivery. Anyone who wants to learn can join a course in Birmingham. See every area we cover, or read about hallways and stairs if you are working on a Georgian entrance.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Monmouthshire

Which towns in Monmouthshire do you work in?

Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to Monmouth, Abergavenny, Chepstow and the villages and farms between. Dates are agreed after the sample and price are signed off.

What finish suits a Georgian townhouse in Monmouth?

Marmorino is a good fit, because it is lime based and breathable, with a refined surface for tall rooms. Cornice and coving repairs can be planned in the same visit.

Does lime plaster work in a barn conversion?

Often, yes. Exposed stone walls and older sections suit lime, while newer blockwork and board need the right preparation first. A survey tells us which is which.

Can you send plaster to my builder in Monmouthshire?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, with base coats and wax.

To talk about your walls, call 07592 929191, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, or email sales@zavore.co.uk with photos and your postcode. Colours are easiest to choose from a sample board.
