Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid across North Yorkshire by our own applicators.
Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in North Yorkshire, from Harrogate villas and Dales cottages to market town houses and homes on the coast. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to North Yorkshire to lay each finish, and the plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves us. To start, order a sample board, or email photos of your walls and the postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
North Yorkshire is large, and most of it is far from Birmingham. So we plan each job in blocks of days, and the same team stays and lays each coat in order.
This is the largest county in England, and its buildings change a great deal from one corner to the next. In the middle, Harrogate grew as a Victorian spa town, with stone terraces, tall villas and grand hotels around the Stray and the Valley Gardens. Knaresborough, close by, climbs a gorge above the River Nidd, and Ripon is a small cathedral city of stone and brick.
To the west lie the Yorkshire Dales. Skipton, Settle and the villages around them are built of grey limestone and gritstone, with thick walls, small windows, old farmhouses and field barns that have been converted into homes. Richmond, at the edge of the Dales, is a Georgian market town below its Norman castle, and Northallerton and Thirsk are market towns with coaching inns and brick terraces.
To the east are the North York Moors and the coast. Helmsley and Malton have stone and brick houses, many with red clay pantile roofs, and Castle Howard, a baroque country house, stands near Malton. Whitby has narrow lanes of fishermen’s cottages in the old town, with Victorian terraces on the cliffs above. Scarborough is a seaside resort of Victorian villas, and York, the great walled city, has its own page.
Across all of this, walls are mostly solid. Stone, thick lime mortar and old brick all expect to breathe, which shapes everything we recommend.
Bathrooms are a separate question. Venetian plaster is not what we put inside a shower, so we use tadelakt or microcement on a prepared, waterproofed wall.
We start from photos and then survey. Substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, how the room is used, access and protection all affect how we price the work. We tell you plainly if a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem fixing first. Remote farmhouses and exposed coastal walls make this survey especially important.
Once the sample and price are signed off, dates are agreed. Your plaster is tinted in Birmingham to the approved sample, and Venetian plaster comes in 48 house colours or any NCS reference. Thin coats need drying time, and cold, damp rooms are slow, so gentle heating helps.
Because many properties are down narrow lanes or up farm tracks, tell us about access and parking. Everything we lay appears on our installation page, and you can find every area we cover in one place.
If you have your own decorator, we can send tinted plaster, base coats and wax by tracked delivery. Designers, architects and the owners of holiday cottages and hotels can find more on our specifier page. Our guide to lime or acrylic Venetian plaster explains why a breathable finish matters on old walls.

A breathable lime finish such as limewash or Marmorino suits thick stone walls. An acrylic coating forms a film and can trap moisture.
Yes. We survey first, then suggest a lime finish for solid walls or polished plaster where the walls are flat. We can also restore cornice and coving.
