Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Lancaster for Georgian townhouses, stone terraces, flats and commercial rooms. Our base is in Birmingham, we supply authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, and our own applicators travel to put it on the wall, tinted to the colour on your approved sample. The best first step is a sample board, followed by photos of your walls and your postcode sent to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Lancaster is a planned trip, so we book installs as a block of days. The applicators stay with the job and build up each coat in turn, and the dates are fixed once the sample and price are signed off.
Lancaster is a historic city with a castle and priory on the hill above the River Lune. Its time as a busy Georgian port left a collection of handsome townhouses, especially on and around Castle Hill and Church Street, and along St George’s Quay the old warehouses and Custom House sit beside the water. Dalton Square, with its domed Edwardian town hall, and the Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park give the city its other landmarks.
Around the centre run streets of Victorian terraces in grey stone and brick, and the surrounding villages such as Galgate and Caton have cottages and stone houses. Bailrigg is home to the university, and newer housing spreads outward from the older streets. Much of the centre is a conservation area, and many buildings are listed.
This is a city of solid walls. Stone, thick plaster and old lime render have been drying slowly for generations in a damp northern climate, and they work best with a breathable finish. A Georgian townhouse may have tall rooms, shutters and cornice that deserve care. A terrace may have uneven walls where a soft lime surface hides undulation better than a flat gloss.
Bathrooms are better with tadelakt or microcement over a waterproofed wall, as Venetian plaster is not for the inside of a shower.
Begin with photos, rough measurements and the postcode, and we can usually answer small questions straight away. Before we price, we survey the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the room is used, and what access and protection we need. In older stone houses we look hard at damp, and we tell you plainly if it must be dealt with first.
When you approve the sample and price, we agree dates. The plaster is tinted in Birmingham to match your sample before it leaves. Because each thin coat needs time to dry, cold, damp rooms slow the work, so a gentle steady heat helps, and other trades should be finished first.
The hilly centre has steep streets and limited parking, and listed buildings may have rules about interior changes, so check with the council about consent and tell us early about access. See the Venetian plaster installation page for the wider service.

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham, and we plan the work in blocks of days so the team can stay and finish each coat in order.
Marmorino or limewash. Both are lime based and breathable, which suits old stone and brick walls, and their soft surfaces sit well with period rooms.
We can advise on the plaster. Consent for interior work is a matter for the council's conservation officer, so check before you book.
