Limewash, Marmorino and lime plaster, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and applied in Kendal by our own applicators.
Zavoré supplies Venetian plastering in Kendal for townhouses, farmhouses, barn conversions, holiday lets and small commercial spaces. We are based in Birmingham, we use authentic Italian lime based plaster, and our own applicators travel to apply it in the colour you have approved. A sample board is the easiest place to begin, and photos with your postcode sent to sales@zavore.co.uk will tell us what we need.
We plan Kendal installs as a block of days. The applicators stay near the job and lay the coats in their proper order, so you are not waiting on repeated journeys.
Kendal is known as the Auld Grey Town because so much of it is built in grey limestone. The old centre follows a long main street, with Georgian townhouses beside it and narrow yards and passages running off to either side. Abbot Hall, a Georgian house by the River Kent, and the ruins of the castle on the hill give a sense of its history as a wool town.
Beyond the centre are Victorian terraces and villas, then later suburbs. The town sits at the edge of the Lake District, so the surrounding countryside has stone farmhouses, cottages, barns converted to homes and holiday lets. Roofs are slate and walls are often thick limestone, sometimes rendered or limewashed.
Thick stone walls hold moisture and release it slowly, and a damp, cool climate makes that even more important. They need a finish that breathes. A sealed, plastic feeling coating can trap moisture, so lime based plaster and limewash are the sensible choice. We can also work around uneven stone and old render if the wall is sound.
For a bathroom, tadelakt on a properly waterproofed wall is a good match with natural materials, and microcement is another option. Venetian plaster is not for inside a shower.
Send photos, rough measurements and the postcode, and many small questions can be answered at once. Before pricing we survey the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the room is used, and access. In stone buildings we look hard at damp and old repairs, and if a wall needs stripping, skimming or a moisture problem fixing first, we say so plainly.
Once the sample and price are approved, we agree dates. Your plaster is tinted in Birmingham before it travels. Cold, damp rooms slow drying, so a barn or cottage left unheated is a poor place to plaster. A gentle steady heat while the thin coats dry helps, and other trades should be finished first.
Rural properties can have narrow lanes and limited parking, so tell us about the route and where a van can stand. See the Venetian plaster installation page for more on the service.
Some homes around the edge of the Lake District are holiday lets, and the finish should suit how a property is used. We are happy to discuss options once we know the rooms. If a local decorator will lay the plaster, we tint it and send it tracked with base coats and wax. Courses for decorators and plasterers run in Birmingham on our training page, and trade accounts are available.

Limewash or Marmorino. Thick stone walls take up and release moisture, and a lime finish lets them do so, where an acrylic coating forms a film.
Yes. We survey the walls first, since barn conversions mix stone, new blockwork and board. We tell you what each needs before the decorative coats.
