Venetian plastering in Inverness

Lime Venetian plaster, limewash and Marmorino for Inverness and the Highlands, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators in planned blocks of days.

Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Inverness and the wider Highlands. We supply authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, and our own applicators travel from our Birmingham base to lay it on site. Your plaster is tinted to the approved sample before it goes north. To begin, send photos of your walls, rough measurements and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk, or order a sample board.

Inverness is a very long way from Birmingham, so the installation is planned in a block of days. The applicators stay for the length of the job, so each coat goes on in order without gaps.

What we would be plastering in Inverness

Inverness is the Highland capital, and it grew along the River Ness where it reaches the Moray Firth. Its castle, built of red sandstone in the nineteenth century, stands above the river, and the Victorian St Andrew’s Cathedral stands on the riverbank nearby. Along Ness Bank and in the Crown district are the Victorian villas and terraces of the town’s better off families, with generous rooms, bay windows and stone walls.

Merkinch and Muirtown, by the Caledonian Canal, have older working terraces and canal side buildings. Away from the centre the picture changes quickly. Inverness has grown a great deal, and housing estates on its south and east edges are modern, with many built using timber frames lined with plasterboard. Beyond them lie farms, stone cottages and crofts, and a lot of holiday lodges and guest houses serving the tourists who come for Loch Ness and the glens.

So within a few miles you can find a Victorian wall of stone and lime, a timber frame new build and a croft with walls that have been limewashed for years. Each wants different handling. The stone walls must be able to dry. The plasterboard must be prepared with reinforced joints and the correct primer. We find out which before we recommend.

Finishes that suit Highland homes

  • Limewash for crofts, cottages and farmhouse kitchens, where a mineral finish gives a soft, traditional look and lets the stone breathe.
  • Marmorino for Ness Bank villas and Crown terraces, in a refined lime finish that suits tall rooms.
  • Polished plaster for new homes in the growing estates, once the board has been prepared and the walls made flat.
  • Clay plaster for bedrooms and lodge interiors, with a soft, matt, natural surface.
  • Tadelakt for bathrooms and wet rooms, as an alternative to putting Venetian plaster in a shower.

How a Highland job is arranged

Photos and a short description come first. For larger work we survey the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, then the way the rooms are used and how we reach and protect them. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or damp resolved, we say so plainly before we price anything.

When the sample and price are approved, we agree dates. Your colour, one of 48 house shades or any NCS reference, is tinted in Birmingham. Long drives and narrow roads can affect deliveries to remote properties, so let us know about access and where materials can be kept dry. Highland winters are cold and damp, and rooms like that dry slowly, so we plan heating with you, particularly for holiday homes that stand empty.

Hoteliers, lodge owners and designers can use our specification page, and our installation page lists every finish.

Buying the material and training

If a local builder will apply the finish, we tint the plaster to your colour and send it tracked with base coats and wax. For people who want to learn the craft, our courses are in Birmingham. Browse every area we cover to see where else we work.

Useful reading includes limewash and emulsion paint compared and how limewash is applied.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Inverness

Do you work in the Highlands outside Inverness?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to Inverness and the surrounding Highlands. Jobs are planned in blocks of days, with dates agreed once the sample and price are signed off.

Which finish suits a croft or stone cottage?

Limewash is a natural fit, since it is lime based and breathable. We survey for damp first and say plainly if repairs are needed.

Can you plaster a new timber frame house?

Yes, once plasterboard joints are reinforced and the right primer is on. The base coats then flatten the wall before any polishing begins.

Can I have the plaster sent to Inverness for my own decorator?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, together with base coats and wax.

To get started, call 07592 929191, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, or email sales@zavore.co.uk with photos and your postcode. A sample board helps you choose a colour.
