Venetian plastering in Dundee

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and polished plaster for villas, tenements and mill conversions, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.

Looking for Venetian plastering in Dundee? Zavoré supplies and installs authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, with our own applicators travelling from Birmingham to lay it. We tint your plaster to the approved sample before it leaves our Birmingham base. The best way to begin is a sample board, or you can email photos, rough measurements and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.

Dundee is a long journey north, so we arrange installations as a run of consecutive days. The applicators remain on site and put each coat on in turn.

Dundee homes, from jute barons to the waterfront

Dundee grew rich on jute, jam and journalism, and the money that came with them shaped its buildings. The old jute mills, large stone and brick blocks, still stand in the city, and some have been converted into flats and offices. The jute barons built themselves large villas, many in Broughty Ferry, the seaside suburb to the east with its beach and castle, and in the leafy West End around Perth Road and the university.

Between those extremes lie the tenements and terraces of Victorian and Edwardian Dundee, built of stone in tight streets climbing up from the Tay. The twentieth century added council housing, including multi storey blocks, and the recent waterfront redevelopment has brought a different kind of building altogether. V&A Dundee stands beside the river, near RRS Discovery, and new hotels, offices and apartments have followed.

That is a lot of different walls. The villas and tenements usually have solid stone and lime plaster, and they want a breathable finish. Post war and new build flats have different structures, and polished finishes need walls that have been made properly flat. Old mill conversions can have brick, iron and stone in the same room. We work out what is behind the plaster, then pick a finish that suits it.

Finishes that suit Dundee interiors

  • Marmorino for the large rooms of Broughty Ferry and West End villas, with a refined lime surface that lets older walls breathe.
  • Travertino for a stone like effect in halls and living rooms, which fits well beside the real stone of the city.
  • Polished plaster for waterfront flats and shop interiors, where flat walls bring out a glossy depth.
  • Concrete effect for converted mills, offices and bars, where industrial character is part of the appeal.
  • Microcement for showers and wet rooms, on a waterproofed, properly prepared wall.

How a Dundee job is planned

We start with photos and a short description. After that, a survey checks the substrate, how flat the wall is, cracks, damp and movement, how the room is used, and access and protection. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or damp fixed first, we say so plainly.

With the sample and price approved, we set dates. The colour, one of 48 house shades or an NCS reference, is tinted in Birmingham. Parking in the city centre and the older streets can be tight, and tenements share a stair, so tell us what to expect. Rooms that stay cold dry slowly, so keep gentle heating on while the coats cure.

Dundee is a UNESCO City of Design, and designers and architects are welcome to use our specification page. Our installation page lists everything we lay.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Dundee

Do you work in Broughty Ferry and the West End?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to every part of Dundee. Jobs are planned in consecutive days, and dates are agreed once the sample and price are signed off.

Can you plaster a converted jute mill flat?

Yes. Mixed walls of stone, brick and board need a survey first. We will say which areas need preparation and which finish will sit best.

What is best for a Victorian tenement in Dundee?

A breathable, lime based finish such as Marmorino or limewash suits solid stone walls. We also check for damp before any decorative coat goes on.

Can I buy the plaster for my own contractor in Dundee?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, with the base coats and wax.
