Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and polished plaster for Harrogate villas, apartments and stone cottages, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré supplies and installs Venetian plastering in Harrogate and nearby Knaresborough, Pannal and the villages of Nidderdale. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to the property, and our lime based plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves us. The simplest way to begin is to order a sample board, or to email photos and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Harrogate is a spa town with a settled, well kept look. We still start by checking what is behind the paint.
Harrogate grew because of its mineral springs. Visitors came to take the waters for generations, and the Victorian and Edwardian town was built for them, with grand hotels, the Royal Pump Room, the Turkish Baths and the Royal Hall, a theatre from the Edwardian years. Valley Gardens and the open grassland of the Stray run through the town and keep its streets spacious.
The housing follows that history. Around the Stray, Duchy Road and the streets near the centre are lined with large Victorian and Edwardian houses in local stone, many divided into flats and some converted from former hotels and boarding houses. Further out, there are interwar semis, postwar suburbs, and newer estates toward the edges, with plasterboard walls inside.
Knaresborough, a short way east, is a different place. It has an old castle, a railway viaduct over the River Nidd and steep streets of stone houses climbing the gorge. In the countryside, villages in Nidderdale and the Dales have stone cottages and farmhouses with thick walls.
Converted hotels and large Victorian houses often have generous ceilings and decorative plasterwork, together with later partition walls and new bathrooms. A single flat can contain old lime plaster, modern boarding and a service riser, so the survey matters.
We start with photos and rough measurements, then survey the walls for substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, and for how the room is used. Flats in converted buildings may have shared access, so we also ask about stairs, lifts and rules for contractors.
Harrogate is a good distance from Birmingham, so larger projects are arranged in blocks of days. The team stays in the area and lays each coat in order. We agree dates once the sample and the price are signed off, and the plaster is tinted to your sample in Birmingham before it leaves.
Furniture and flooring need protection, and a gentle, steady heat helps coats dry in a cold house. In the town centre, parking is limited, and permits may be needed. The Venetian plaster installation page covers what happens at each stage, and our article on white Venetian plaster may help if you are considering a pale scheme.
Hotels, restaurants and guest houses are a large part of Harrogate life, and designers and architects can read how to specify our finishes for them. If you prefer to use your own decorator, we can send tinted materials across the UK by tracked delivery. Our courses in Birmingham are open to plasterers and decorators, and you can see every area we cover.
Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham. For flats and hotels we ask about access, lifts and working hours, and we plan around them.
Marmorino is a strong choice for solid stone walls and tall rooms. It is lime based, so it breathes, and it gives a soft sheen without a plastic look.
It can be, provided the walls are flat. Polished finishes show every dip, so we check and level first.
Yes. Larger jobs are planned in blocks of days, and we will confirm the arrangements once we have your photos and postcode.
