Looking for Venetian plastering training in Harrogate? The honest position is that no course is held in the town. Our courses are taught at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, and Harrogate students travel there to learn.
The training is aimed at decorators and plasterers who want to specialise, interior designers and renovators who like to understand a finish properly, people looking for a skilled new trade, and homeowners with a taste for the real thing.
Harrogate is a spa town with a reputation for well kept, comfortable homes, so decorative finishes are easy to place here.
The town grew in the Victorian era as a fashionable spa, and it still has streets of large Victorian and Edwardian houses and terraces, many of them close to open green space such as the Stray. Owners of homes like these often care about period detail and are willing to pay for a quality finish. Hallways, stairwells and drawing rooms suit Marmorino, and fireplaces and alcoves can take a more sculptural treatment.
Harrogate also has a strong hospitality and events side, with hotels, restaurants and a large conference centre, so commercial interiors are part of the picture too. In newer apartment developments and renovated flats, polished plaster gives a smooth, reflective wall, while bathrooms and spa style rooms can use tadelakt.
The wider area adds Knaresborough, Ripon and village homes in the Dales, where older stone houses benefit from breathable lime. A Harrogate decorator can offer Venetian plaster as a premium upgrade to clients who already trust them with the house.
Most people from Harrogate start on the Beginner Course. If you already plaster or work on site, you could go straight to the Advanced Course, and anyone with a particular project in mind can book 1 to 1.
Sessions run 10am to 5pm. The Beginner Course sets the foundations with up to six students. The Advanced Course covers artificial rock, textured Marmorino, sanding and blending colours. A 1 to 1 can focus on a design you have in mind. Dates appear on the training page. You might also find our piece on the Advanced course helpful.
People from Harrogate reach Birmingham by train or by car, and because it is central in England, the trip is a common one for students from the north.
When your course runs for 3 or 4 days, you will want to book somewhere to stay. Zavoré has a partner rate at a hotel near the Academy, and you quote Zavoré when booking. Station or airport pickup can be arranged with your booking at a price that varies with where you arrive.
After the course you take home finished panels for a portfolio, a Zavoré certificate and trade pricing on materials, with a private group and helpline for life to call on when a real job raises a question. Advanced students get help to find, price and win a first paid decorative job.
If you would like Zavoré to do the work for a client, see Venetian plastering in Harrogate. Plaster and tools can be ordered from the shop with tracked UK delivery.
Not in Harrogate itself. The training takes place at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, and Harrogate students travel there for the course.
It suits decorators, plasterers, builders, designers, career changers and homeowners. The Beginner Course assumes no experience.
A plasterer used to skimming walls will often take the Beginner Course to learn the materials and finishes, then add the Advanced Course for polished and decorative work.
Yes. Plasters, primers, waxes, trowels and panels are all included, along with lunch and refreshments.
