Lime Venetian plaster, limewash, clay plaster and murals for Dulwich family homes, tinted before it leaves Birmingham and applied by our own travelling team.
Zavoré brings Venetian plastering in Dulwich to family homes in the Village, East Dulwich and West Dulwich, with authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, limewash, clay plaster, tadelakt, hand painted murals and more. Our base is in Birmingham, and every installation is carried out by our own applicators, who make the journey to south London for the job. Choosing a colour on a sample board is the natural first step, and photos of the rooms can go straight to sales@zavore.co.uk.
As Dulwich is so far from Birmingham, the team books in for a set block of days and keeps working through the coats, one after another, until the last is done.
Dulwich Village feels more like a country town than a part of London. Around the old high street you find Georgian houses and cottages, with Dulwich College, Dulwich Park and Sir John Soane’s Dulwich Picture Gallery close by. Large parts of the area are owned by the Dulwich Estate, which has its own scheme of management, so if your home is on Estate land it is worth checking whether your plans need its consent.
East Dulwich is quite different. Here the streets off Lordship Lane are lined with Victorian terraces, some divided into upper and lower flats and many lived in as family homes with knocked through living rooms, extended kitchens and loft bedrooms. West Dulwich and the roads towards Herne Hill mix more Victorian and Edwardian houses with later infill.
What this means on the wall is mostly solid brick and old lime plaster in the original rooms, with plasterboard in the newer extensions and lofts. Family life adds its own demands too, from scuffed hallways to busy kitchens.
For a family bathroom, we would suggest tadelakt or microcement inside the shower, on a properly waterproofed wall, keeping Venetian plaster for the drier areas.
Send a few photos with rough measurements and the postcode, and simple questions may be settled from those alone. Before quoting for an installation we survey the house, looking at the wall material, how flat it is, cracks, damp and movement, how each room is used day to day, and what access and protection are needed.
Older terraces can have damp in places that are easy to miss, and some walls carry many layers of old paint. Where stripping, skimming or a damp repair must happen first, we will say so without dressing it up. Once you sign off the sample and the price, we set dates, and your plaster is tinted to the sample before it leaves Birmingham.
Most of Dulwich has residents’ parking or busy roads near the shops, so tell us if a permit will be needed for the van. It also helps if skimming, electrics and new joinery are finished and dry before we arrive. See our limewash installation and Venetian plaster installation pages for more detail.
Lime finishes can be touched up when a corner gets knocked, which matters in a hallway full of bikes and school bags. Our Journal explains this in repairing Venetian plaster, and choosing limewash colours helps with the palette. The full list of places is on our page for every area we cover.
It often is. Limewash is breathable, which suits solid brick walls, and it can be refreshed easily as the house gets lived in. We confirm the choice after the survey.
That depends on the work, and only the Estate can tell you. We recommend asking before you book, so nothing holds up your dates.
Yes. Hand painted murals are one of the finishes we offer, so they can be planned alongside the plastering.
Dates are agreed once the sample and price are approved. Because our applicators travel from Birmingham and stay for a block of days, it helps to get in touch early.
