Venetian plastering in Canary Wharf

Polished plaster, liquid metal and concrete effect, tinted in Birmingham and laid in Canary Wharf apartments and commercial spaces by our own applicators.

Zavoré can arrange Venetian plastering in Canary Wharf for apartments, offices, hotels, restaurants and retail units. We are based in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel to site to lay Venetian plaster, polished plaster, liquid metal, concrete effect and our other decorative finishes. A sample board is the easiest way to begin, and photos or plans can go to sales@zavore.co.uk.

Canary Wharf is different from most of London, because most of it was built in the last few decades, and much of the work here is for managed buildings and commercial tenants.

What Canary Wharf is made of

The estate sits on the Isle of Dogs, on the old West India Docks. The Georgian dock warehouses at West India Quay survive as listed buildings, and one holds the Museum of London Docklands. Around the water stand glass and steel office towers, headed by One Canada Square with its pyramid roof, plus the shopping malls and restaurants that serve them, and the Elizabeth line station with its rooftop garden.

Next to the offices there are a great many residential towers, with newer neighbourhoods such as Wood Wharf still being added to the east. Further south on the Isle of Dogs, Millwall and Cubitt Town have a gentler Victorian and twentieth century character, with brick terraces and low rise blocks near the river.

For us that means concrete frames, plasterboard linings and floor to ceiling glass, where walls are flat and surfaces are modern. It also means very organised buildings, with concierge desks, loading bays and rules on noise and hours.

Finishes for towers, offices and restaurants

  • Polished plaster for apartment living rooms and reception areas, where flat walls and views let the depth of a polished surface show.
  • Liquid metal and other metallic finishes for lobbies, bars and feature walls that are meant to catch the eye.
  • Concrete effect for restaurants, cafes and offices that want a hard wearing industrial look on a modern shell.
  • Lacquered walls for hotel rooms, private dining rooms and meeting rooms that want deep, glossy colour.
  • Microcement for bathrooms, kitchens and floors on a properly prepared, waterproofed base, since we do not recommend Venetian plaster inside a shower.

Polished finishes show every dip, so the survey checks the wall for flatness before anything is priced. Colours come from our 48 house shades or any NCS reference, shown on the colours page.

Planning a Canary Wharf job

Work here is planned in blocks of days, and the applicators stay on site and lay each coat in order. For a commercial space that is often agreed with the fit out programme, so that decorative plastering does not clash with other trades.

We begin from your photos, plans and a postcode. Before pricing an installation we survey the walls, checking the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the space is used, and the access and protection it needs. We say plainly if a wall needs skimming or other preparation first. Dates are agreed after sample and price sign off, and the plaster is tinted to the approved sample in Birmingham before it leaves.

In the managed towers, contractors normally need to be booked in, with lifts reserved and deliveries timed, and loading space can be limited, so please tell us what the building requires at the start. Our Venetian plaster installation page covers the full range, and our guide to commercial Venetian plaster may help with restaurants and shops.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Canary Wharf

Can you work in a Canary Wharf apartment tower?

Yes. Please tell us about lift bookings, deliveries and working hours early, and we will plan the dates around the building rules once the sample and price are approved.

Which finish suits a restaurant or bar in Canary Wharf?

Concrete effect and liquid metal both suit a busy commercial space, and lacquered walls suit private dining rooms. We would survey the walls and discuss the use before recommending one.

Do you travel to Canary Wharf from Birmingham?

Yes. Our own applicators travel and stay on site through a planned block of days so that every coat is laid in order.

Do you work with fit out contractors and designers?

Yes. We work to a specification and agree dates with the programme, and our specification page explains how to start.
