Venetian plastering in Brighton and Hove

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash for Brighton and Hove, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.

Zavoré supplies and installs Venetian plastering in Brighton and Hove, from Regency flats beside the sea to family houses on the hill streets behind. We work with authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster and a wider range of decorative finishes. We are based in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel south to lay each coat. A sample board is the place to start, and you can email photos and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk at any point.

The city is a patchwork of building periods, so the best advice depends on the street. Here is how we think about the main types.

The homes we would be plastering in Brighton and Hove

Brighton and Hove grew up as a seaside resort, and the Regency period shaped much of it. Terraces and squares in Kemp Town, Regency Square and Brunswick Town in Hove are famous for their bow fronts, tall windows and stuccoed facades. The flats created inside them usually have high ceilings, cornices and ceiling roses, though the walls behind have often been altered, boarded or patched over the years.

Inland from the sea front, the hills are lined with Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas. Hanover and the streets around the North Laine are packed with narrow terraced houses, and further out areas such as Preston Park, Fiveways and Seven Dials have larger Victorian and Edwardian houses. Hove has a good number of mansion blocks and interwar and Art Deco buildings along and behind the seafront. Newer apartment buildings sit near the marina and in recent developments around the city.

That variety shapes the work. High, ornate Regency rooms suit refined, breathable finishes. Narrow terraces can be small and dark, so colour and sheen need care. Newer flats have flat board walls that take a deep polish.

Finishes that suit Brighton and Hove homes

  • Marmorino for Regency and Victorian rooms, where a lime based, softly polished surface lets older walls breathe.
  • Polished plaster for new apartments and refurbished flats with true, flat walls, where a reflective finish helps a small room feel larger.
  • Limewash for the cottages and terraces in the lanes and side streets, where a chalky, matt surface suits uneven old plaster.
  • Cornice and coving where original detail has been lost, so a ceiling edge matches the age of the house.
  • Tadelakt for a wet room, since Venetian plaster is not recommended inside a shower.

How a Venetian plastering job in Brighton and Hove runs

Before we price an installation we survey the walls. We check what they are made of, how flat and sound they are, any cracks, damp or movement, how the room is used, and how we reach and protect it. Seafront buildings can suffer from damp and from exposure, so we pay attention to that. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem fixing first, we say so plainly.

After you approve a sample and the price, we agree dates. The plaster is tinted to the approved sample before it leaves Birmingham, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference. Brighton and Hove is a good way from Birmingham, so larger jobs are planned in blocks of days with the team staying on site and laying the coats in order.

Parking is tight in much of the city, especially around the centre and the seafront terraces. Please tell us about permits, lifts and any managing agent rules when you get in touch. Our installation page lists the finishes we can lay.

Designers, developers and your own decorator

If you are an interior designer or architect, our specify page explains how we can support a specification. If you prefer to use your own decorator, we can supply tinted plaster tracked across the UK, and our courses in Birmingham teach the technique.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Brighton and Hove

Do you install Venetian plaster in Brighton and Hove?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham and plan larger jobs in blocks of days. We survey first and agree dates once you have approved a sample and the price.

Which finish suits a Regency flat in Hove?

Marmorino is a good choice for a Regency room because it is lime based, breathable and has a calm, refined surface. We will check the condition of the walls first.

Is Venetian plaster suitable for a flat close to the sea?

It can be, if the walls are dry and sound. We survey for damp and movement and tell you plainly if something needs fixing before the decorative finish.

Can I buy Venetian plaster for my own decorator in Brighton?

Yes. We tint the plaster to your colour and send it tracked, along with the base coats and wax your decorator needs.
