Venetian plastering training for beginners starts with the 3 day Beginner Course at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, which costs £750 per person and needs no experience. You learn what Venetian plaster is, how to prepare a wall, how to apply and build the coats, and how to polish and protect the finish, and you take your own finished panels home.
This guide walks through the course in plain steps, so you know exactly what to expect before you book.
It is for anyone who has never used Venetian plaster, whatever their background. You do not need to be a plasterer or a decorator, and you do not need to have held a trowel before.
Groups are small, with up to six students, so you get proper attention from the tutor. The course runs for 3 days, from 10am to 5pm.
The course follows the order a real wall is built, so each step makes sense of the next. Here is the sequence.
The aim is that you understand why each stage matters, not just what to copy. That is what lets you solve problems on a real wall later.
You need to bring nothing except yourself. Everything is provided, so you do not need to buy tools or plaster in advance.
Each seat includes the following.
Wear clothes you do not mind getting plaster on. The Beginner Course page has the booking details.
The Beginner Course is £750 per person. You can hold a bench by paying £375 now and the rest on the day, by calling 07592 929191 or emailing sales@zavore.co.uk. Or you can book online and pay in full.
Dates are shown on the training page. If dates are not yet set, you can register your interest there. For the full picture on money, see what a Venetian plaster course costs.
Many people practise for a while and then take the Advanced Course, which runs for 4 days and costs £1,200. It covers artificial rock, textured Marmorino, stencil work, acrylic polish plastering, vein work and high gloss polishing. It is for beginners who have done the first course and for people from site.
Others choose a 1 to 1, which is 3 days at £1,500 and is shaped entirely around what you want to learn. Read about advanced Venetian plastering training and group course or 1 to 1 to see which path suits you. For a closer look at the first course, see inside the Beginner Course.
If you are thinking about it as a career, starting a decorative plastering career is a good next read. And if you would prefer someone else to do the wall, Zavoré offers installation across the UK.
All courses are taught in Birmingham, which is central in England, and students come by train or by car from across the UK. A 3 day course means planning where to stay.
Zavoré holds a partner rate at a hotel near the Academy, so quote Zavoré when booking, and airport or station pickup can be arranged with your booking for a price that depends on where you arrive. See our complete guide to Venetian plastering training for more on the whole picture.
Yes. The Beginner Course is designed for people with no experience, and it starts with the theory before moving onto hands on practice.
No. All materials and tools are provided, including authentic Italian plasters, primers, waxes, trowels and panels.
There are up to six students per group, so everyone gets time with the tutor.
You take home your own finished panels for a portfolio, plus a Zavoré certificate. You also join a private course group with a helpline for life and get trade pricing on Zavoré materials.
The Beginner Course suits most people starting out, and it is in a small group. A 1 to 1 suits you if you prefer a tutor to yourself or want it shaped around a specific finish.
To book, call 07592 929191 or email sales@zavore.co.uk, or choose your dates on the training page.
