Three Days on the Trowel: Inside a Beginner Venetian Plastering Course

People ask what can really be learned in three days. The honest answer: not mastery, which takes years, but the complete skeleton of the craft, correctly assembled, with every bad habit caught before it sets. Here is how the three days at our benches are spent.

Day one: the wall before the beauty

Everything venetian stands or falls on preparation, so that is where we start: reading a substrate, sealing and priming, mixing, and loading a trowel so the material works with you instead of against you. Then base coats, the unglamorous layers that decide whether the pretty ones survive. By the end of the day the trowel starts feeling less like a foreign object.

Day two: marmorino, coat by coat

The classic finish, built properly. Application angles, pressure, timing between passes, and the patience that lime demands. You work on your own boards, and a tutor corrects each pass as it happens, which is the entire point of six benches and no more. Mistakes are welcomed here; they are cheaper on a board than on a client's hallway.

Day three: the finish line

Final coats, burnishing to bring up the shine, waxing where a room would need it, and edges and corners, which is where amateurs are found out. We finish with the practical trade questions: what to buy first, how to price honestly, and how to practise between now and your first paid wall.

What you leave with

Your finished boards, a certificate, trade pricing on materials, and a helpline where a working master answers when your first solo wall asks a question the course did not. Three days, 10am to 5pm, everything provided, six benches only. Dates and booking are on the Training Academy page, and the bench is yours the moment you book.
