Advanced Venetian Plastering Training, Vein Work, Artificial Rock and High Gloss

Advanced Venetian plastering training is the 4 day Advanced Course at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, for people who have done the Beginner Course or work on site. It costs £1,200 per person and takes you into vein work, artificial rock, stencil work and high gloss polishing, with up to six students and help to win a first paid decorative job.

This guide explains who the course is for, each topic in plain terms, and how it differs from the Beginner Course.

Who is the Advanced Course for?

It is for beginners who have already done the first course, and for people who work on site and already know how to handle plaster. If you have never used Venetian plaster, start with the Beginner Course.

  • Students who have completed the Beginner Course and want to go further.
  • Plasterers and decorators from site who already have hands on skills.
  • Applicators who want to offer more dramatic finishes to clients.

The course runs for 4 days, from 10am to 5pm, with up to six students. You can book it on the Advanced Course page.

What does the Advanced Course cover?

It covers deeper theory and a set of specialist techniques that take a finish from clean to striking. Here is each topic in plain terms.

  • Deeper theory. A closer look at how the materials work, so you can choose the right product and system for a job.
  • Artificial rock. A heavily textured finish that imitates natural rock. See artificial rock feature walls and our artificial rock page.
  • Textured Marmorino. Marmorino with surface texture added, rather than a flat smooth polish.
  • Stencil work. Using stencils to build patterns and designs into the plaster.
  • Acrylic polish plastering. Working with acrylic based polished plaster and learning how it differs from lime.
  • Vein work. Creating veining, the flowing lines you see in natural marble and stone.
  • Sanding techniques. Using sanding to refine the surface between stages.
  • Polishing to a high gloss. Burnishing the finish to a deep, reflective shine.
  • Tinting, coloured waxes and sealers. Adding and controlling colour, and protecting the finish.
  • Blending colours and waxes. Combining colours and waxes to create depth and subtle variation.

For a closer walkthrough, read inside the Advanced Course.

How is it different from the Beginner Course?

The Beginner Course teaches the foundations and the Advanced Course builds specialist skills on top of them. The table sets them side by side.

What help do you get to win a first paid job?

Advanced students get help to find, price and win a first paid decorative job. That is practical support aimed at turning the skill into work.

On top of that, every seat includes a private course group with a helpline for life, trade pricing on Zavoré materials, and your finished panels to take home as a portfolio. We do not promise any income or work, but we do help you take the next step. Our guides on pricing Venetian plaster jobs and starting a decorative plastering career are useful companions.

What is included, and how do you book?

Everything is included, so you only pay the course fee. Every seat includes the following.

  • Expert tuition from working applicators who install these walls for clients.
  • All materials and tools, including authentic Italian plasters, primers, waxes, trowels and panels.
  • Lunch and refreshments.
  • Your finished panels to take home, and a Zavoré certificate.

You can hold a bench with half the price, which is £600 on its own, and pay the rest on the day. Dates are on the training page. Students travel to Birmingham by train or by car, and Zavoré holds a partner rate at a hotel near the Academy. Airport or station pickup can be arranged with your booking.

If you want a particular finish rather than the full syllabus, the 1 to 1 Training is 3 days at £1,500 and shaped entirely around you. And if you would rather have a wall installed than learn the craft, see our installation service. Read the complete guide to Venetian plastering training for the wider picture.
