Polished Plaster for Homes in Coventry, Leamington and Kenilworth

Polished plaster for homes in Coventry and Leamington, a white interior with wall mouldings and a mirrored wall

Short answer. Polished plaster suits a wide range of homes in Coventry and Warwickshire, from post war houses and new estates around Coventry to Regency townhouses in Leamington Spa and family homes in Kenilworth. The right finish depends more on the type of house and the way you use each room than on the postcode. Zavoré's applicators are based in Birmingham, which is close to Coventry and most of Warwickshire.

Would you rather have it done for you? Our own applicators provide Venetian plaster installation across the UK, including Venetian plastering in Coventry.

Start with the type of house

Rather than thinking room by room, it helps to start with the house itself.

Post war and 1930s homes in Coventry. Much of Coventry was rebuilt after the Second World War, and the suburbs have plenty of houses from the 1930s and after. These usually have modest room sizes and a straight hallway. A polished plaster hallway, or a single living room wall in a warm neutral, can lift the whole house without making small rooms feel busy.

Regency townhouses and flats in Leamington Spa. Many of these tall houses are now split into flats. High ceilings and long stairwells give large, uninterrupted wall areas, which is where polished plaster looks its most natural. A lime based Grassello also suits the age of the building.

Family homes in Kenilworth and Warwick. Kitchen extensions and open plan living spaces are common here. A Marmorino finish on a kitchen wall, sealed to resist marks, ties a new extension to the rest of the house. Choosing one colour for both the old rooms and the new space helps the whole ground floor feel planned as one.

New build estates. Developments around Coventry, Rugby and Nuneaton have smooth modern plaster walls that only need priming. They are a blank canvas for bolder choices such as concrete effect or metallic Liquid Metal.

Polished plaster, Marmorino or Travertino?

  • Polished plaster (Grassello) is a fine lime putty, trowelled in thin coats and burnished, meaning pressed and polished with a steel trowel, until it feels like smooth marble.
  • Marmorino contains crushed marble and has a little more texture. It can be left matt or polished to a soft finish.
  • Travertino imitates travertine stone, with its natural lines and small holes, and suits fireplaces and feature walls.

How the job runs

Coventry and much of Warwickshire are close to our Birmingham base, which keeps planning simple. It also makes it easy to visit the Birmingham showroom, which is open by appointment, to see finishes in person before you decide. You send photos and rough room sizes, choose a colour, and see it on a sample board trowelled in that colour. The material is tinted before it arrives. On site, the walls are prepared first, then the plaster goes on in several thin coats with drying time between each one.

Order a sample board in your colour, call 07592 929191 or email sales@zavore.co.uk to talk through your home. Details of how our teams travel and plan are on the installation page.

Questions we get asked

What is the difference between polished plaster and Marmorino?

Polished plaster, or Grassello, is a very fine lime putty that is burnished to a smooth marble feel. Marmorino has crushed marble in it, giving a little more texture and a more stone like look.

Can polished plaster go on a ceiling?

Yes, polished plaster can be applied to ceilings as well as walls, as long as the surface is sound and properly prepared.

How do I clean polished plaster?

Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners. Waxed or sealed finishes are easier to keep clean.
