Plaster Installation Outside Birmingham, How Jobs Are Planned in Blocks of Days

Plaster installation outside Birmingham planned in blocks of days, the London skyline and the Thames from The Shard

Short answer. Zavoré is based in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel from there to install across the UK. For jobs further away we plan the work in blocks of days, so the team stays on the job and works through the coats in order, rather than travelling back and forth. Your dates are agreed before the job starts, once the sample and the price are signed off.

Zavoré lays this for you too. Our own team provides decorative plaster installation across the UK, including Venetian plastering in Birmingham.

Why blocks of days

Decorative plaster is not one coat and done. Venetian plaster is laid in thin layers with drying time between them, limewash goes on in several coats, and microcement is built up and then sealed. Each step has to happen at the right time.

When a job is close to our studio, a team can come and go as the coats need. When the house is a long drive away, that would waste days on the road. Planning the work in a block means the applicators arrive, prepare, lay each coat as soon as the last one is ready and finish the job in one run.

It also helps to tell us early about anything that limits working days, such as a building that only allows contractors on weekdays, a holiday you have booked, or other trades due in the same week. The block is planned around these, and that is much easier to do before dates are fixed.

How the block is worked out

The length of the block depends on the finish, the area, the height of the walls and how much preparation is needed. A single feature wall needs far less time than a hallway and stairwell, and a tadelakt shower takes longer than a limewashed bedroom because of the stages involved.

We also plan the size of the team. Many finishes need a whole wall laid without stopping, so a large room may need two or three applicators on it at once. All of this is set out after the site visit, alongside your quotation.

What it means for you

  • Readiness matters more. If walls are not ready when the team arrives, a block can be lost. Skimming, electrics and joinery should be finished and dry before the start date.
  • Access each day. The team needs to get in at the agreed time each morning of the block, and somewhere to keep tools and material.
  • Grouping rooms. It often makes sense to do several rooms in one visit rather than one now and one later.
  • Weather and drying. Cold, damp rooms slow drying. Keeping the heating on gently during the block helps the coats dry evenly.

Material arrives ready

Your plaster or limewash is tinted to the colour on your approved sample before it leaves Birmingham. That means the team arrives with the right colour in the tubs and does not lose time mixing on site. If you are buying the material for your own decorator instead, we ship it tracked across the UK.

You can see which finishes we install on our limewash installation and Venetian plaster installation pages.

Tell us where the property is and what you have in mind by calling 07592 929191 or emailing sales@zavore.co.uk. Order a sample board to start choosing a colour, and see every finish on our installation page.

Questions we get asked

Do you install outside the Midlands?

Yes. Our applicators travel from Birmingham to install across the UK, working in planned blocks of days on jobs further away.

Can the work be split over separate visits?

It depends on the finish and the job. We set out the most sensible schedule after the site visit, and usually aim to finish each area in one block.

What happens if the walls are not ready on the start date?

Tell us as early as you can so the dates can be moved. Starting on walls that are still wet or unfinished risks the finish.
