We will tell you what we can from the pictures, then visit to survey and price.

Windsor townhouses, villas and riverside homes

Windsor is a royal town that grew up beneath its castle, and the oldest streets around the castle walls hold a mix of Georgian and earlier townhouses, small shops and inns. Park Street and Sheet Street have handsome Georgian fronts, and much of the centre is a conservation area with a large number of listed buildings. Across the bridge, Eton has its own old high street leading to the college.

South of the centre, the streets near Holy Trinity church and Alma Road have substantial Victorian houses and villas, many now split into flats. Clewer and Dedworth to the west are more mixed, with Victorian terraces, interwar homes and postwar estates, and there are newer riverside apartments along the Thames.

The walls in a Georgian townhouse are not the walls in a riverside flat. Older houses have solid brick, lime plaster and often fine cornices and ceilings that deserve care, while modern apartments are plasterboard over a frame. We plan the finish around the construction of your room.

Finishes that suit Windsor interiors

• Marmorino for Georgian and Victorian rooms, because lime lets solid walls breathe and its matt stone character sits naturally beside period joinery.
• Venetian plaster for formal drawing rooms and dining rooms where a polished, marble like depth suits tall ceilings, provided the walls are brought flat.
• Gilding for cornices, ceiling details and feature walls in grander period rooms.
• Lacquered walls for dining rooms, bars and restaurants that want a deep, reflective colour.
• Cornice and coving installation to restore missing mouldings before the walls are finished.

For bathrooms we would use tadelakt or microcement on a waterproofed wall, not Venetian plaster.

How a Venetian plastering job in Windsor runs

The survey comes first. We check what the walls are built from, how flat and sound they are, where there is cracking or movement, whether damp is present, how the room is used, and what access and protection the house needs. If old paint has to be stripped or a wall must be skimmed first, we tell you before you commit.

Dates are booked once you are happy with the sample and the price. The plaster is coloured to the approved sample in Birmingham and travels to Windsor ready to use. Since Windsor is well away from our base, the job is arranged in a block of days, keeping the applicators on site to lay each coat in order.

Parking in central Windsor is limited and the streets near the castle are busy with visitors, so please share permit and loading details early. If your house is listed, talk to the council conservation team before work starts on historic fabric. More is on our installations page.

Hotels, restaurants and designers

Windsor has a busy hospitality trade serving its visitors. For hotels, restaurants and bars, we consider wear, cleaning and how easily a finish can be repaired. Designers and architects can find our specification support on the designers and architects page.

You may find our guides to restaurant walls that last and gold leaf walls and ceilings useful. You can also see every area we cover.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Windsor

Will your applicators come to Windsor and Eton?

Yes. Our own team travels from Birmingham to Windsor, Eton and the villages nearby, staying for a planned block of days once the sample and price are signed off.

Which finish suits a Georgian townhouse in Windsor?

Usually a breathable lime finish such as Marmorino or polished lime Venetian plaster, chosen after we have surveyed the walls. For listed buildings, check with the conservation team first.

Can you restore cornice as well as plaster the walls?

Yes. We install cornice and coving, and can add gilding to mouldings, so the ceilings and walls are finished together.

Do you work in hotels and restaurants?

Yes. We look at how much wear the walls will take and how the space is cleaned, then suggest a finish that suits a busy room.
