Venetian plastering in Wigan

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and concrete effect finishes, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid on Wigan walls by our own applicators.

Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Wigan for terraced houses, mill conversions, newer family homes and commercial rooms. We supply authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster from our Birmingham base, and our own applicators travel to lay it. The easiest way to begin is a sample board in the colours you like, or a few photos of the walls emailed to sales@zavore.co.uk.

Because Wigan is a planned trip rather than a quick visit, we organise the work in blocks of days. The team stays on the job and lays each coat in order, so you are not waiting while we travel back and forth.

The homes and buildings of Wigan

Wigan grew up on cotton and coal, and the buildings still show it. Along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal stand big brick mills, several of them now turned into apartments, offices and leisure space. Around the centre, and out through Pemberton, Ince and Hindley, long rows of red brick terraces were built for the people who worked the mills and the pits.

Further out, Standish, Orrell and Shevington add Victorian and Edwardian villas, interwar semis and newer estates, and the open land beyond has plenty of recent family houses built on plasterboard.

Each of those needs a different approach. A terrace has solid brick walls, narrow rooms and a century of patching, so it wants a finish that breathes. A mill conversion often has tall walls, exposed brick and big flat areas where a single finish can carry a whole room. A recent build has board joints that must be reinforced and primed properly. We choose the finish after we have seen the wall you have, not before.

Finishes that suit Wigan homes

  • Marmorino for terraces and Victorian villas. It is lime based and breathable, so it suits old solid brick, and its soft sheen is forgiving on walls that are not perfectly true.
  • Concrete effect for mill conversions and loft style apartments, where a calm, stone like surface sits comfortably beside brick and steel.
  • Polished plaster for new builds and flats with flat, sound walls, where a deeper shine can lift a dining room or a hallway.
  • Limewash for bedrooms, landings and stairs where you want soft movement and no gloss.

For a bathroom or shower we would use tadelakt or microcement on a properly waterproofed wall, because Venetian plaster is not what we recommend inside a shower.

How a Venetian plastering job in Wigan runs

We start from your photos, rough measurements and postcode, then survey the walls before we price. We look at the substrate, how flat the surface is, any cracks, damp or movement, and how the room is used. If a terrace wall needs stripping, skimming or a damp problem fixing first, we tell you plainly.

Once you approve the sample and the price, we agree dates. The plaster is tinted to your approved sample in Birmingham before it travels, so the colour arrives in the tub. Venetian plaster goes on in thin coats with drying time between them, so it helps if electrics, skirtings and any wet trades are finished first, and if the room is not left cold and damp.

In a terrace with street parking, let us know where a van can stand. In a converted mill, tell us about lifts, stairs and building rules. See the full range on our Venetian plaster installation page.

Buying the plaster or learning the craft

If you have a decorator you trust, we can tint the plaster, base coats and wax to your colour and send them tracked to your Wigan address. If you are a plasterer or decorator who wants to add the finish to your own work, our Venetian plaster courses run in Birmingham, and trade accounts make repeat orders simpler.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Wigan

Do you travel to Wigan for Venetian plastering?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham. On a job this far away we plan the work in blocks of days so the team can stay and lay each coat in order.

What suits a red brick mill terrace in Wigan?

A lime finish such as Marmorino or limewash. Solid brick walls need to breathe, and acrylic look alikes form a film that can hold moisture in an old wall.

Can Venetian plaster go in a converted mill apartment?

Yes. Large flat walls suit polished plaster or a concrete effect finish. We survey the surface first and tell you if any area needs preparing before the decorative coats.

Can I buy Venetian plaster in Wigan for my own decorator?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, with the base coats, wax and advice your decorator needs.
