Venetian plastering in Bolton

Lime Venetian plaster, limewash and Marmorino, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid on your Bolton walls by our own applicators.

Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Bolton for stone and brick terraces, mill conversions, villas on the moorland edge and newer family homes. We are based in Birmingham and our own applicators travel to Bolton to install. Your plaster is tinted to the approved sample before it leaves us, and a sample board, or photos and a postcode sent to sales@zavore.co.uk, is the way in.

Bigger Bolton jobs are planned in blocks of days, so the team stays and lays each coat in order. Dates are agreed once the sample and price are signed off.

What Bolton's buildings look like inside

Bolton was a great cotton spinning town, and Samuel Crompton, inventor of the spinning mule, lived and worked here. The mills and their chimneys shaped the town, and the streets built for the workers are still a defining feature, in rows of Victorian terraces that climb the hillsides, many in local stone and others in brick. Bolton Town Hall and Victoria Square give the centre a confident Victorian civic character.

Beyond the centre are districts with their own feel. Heaton, Lostock and Bromley Cross have larger Victorian and Edwardian houses and later suburban semis. Astley Bridge and Halliwell have older terraces and former mill streets. Horwich grew around its railway works, Westhoughton and Harwood have a mix of old and new, and the moorland edge around Smithills and Rivington brings stone cottages, old halls and farmhouses. Smithills Hall, a historic timber framed and stone house, is one example.

These are largely solid walled houses, and many are on high ground where wind and rain are part of life. That affects how quickly a wall dries and how we plan. A terrace with thick stone or brick needs a breathable lime finish. A newer house or an apartment in a converted mill has different needs, and we assess each wall before we choose.

Finishes that suit Bolton properties

  • Limewash for stone terraces and moorland cottages, with a matt, chalky depth that works with thick breathing walls.
  • Marmorino for Victorian and Edwardian family houses in Heaton and Lostock, which have the height and light to carry a soft sheen.
  • Clay plaster for a warm, natural wall in farmhouses and cottages near the moors.
  • Concrete effect for mill apartments, which suits exposed brick, steel and tall windows.
  • Tadelakt for bathrooms, since we do not recommend Venetian plaster inside a shower.

How a Venetian plastering job in Bolton runs

Start with photos, rough measurements and your postcode. Many questions, such as whether a wall will need skimming, can be answered from the pictures. Then we survey the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement and how the room is used before giving a price for installation. We say plainly if a damp wall or poor plaster needs work first.

When you have approved the sample and the price, the plaster is tinted in Birmingham and the dates are agreed. Each thin coat has to dry before the next. Cold, damp rooms dry slowly, and stone houses on exposed ground can run cold, so gentle heating helps. Steep terraced streets can make parking and unloading tight, so mention access when you write. See everything we install on the installation page.
