Zavoré supplies Venetian plastering in Southport for villas, apartments, shops, cafes and restaurants. We are based in Birmingham, we use authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, and our own applicators travel to apply it in a colour tinted to your approved sample. Southport is a planned journey from Birmingham, so we book the work in blocks of days. The applicators stay for the job, lay each coat in order and avoid the stop and start of daily travel.
Southport is a Victorian seaside resort, and the town still looks like one. Lord Street, a wide tree lined boulevard, runs through the centre with glass and iron canopies over the shop fronts. The Promenade, the pier and the gardens along the front belong to the same period. Behind them stand streets of large red brick villas and terraces, many with bay windows and tall rooms, some still family houses and a good many divided into flats.
Birkdale, just south of the centre, has its own village feel with Victorian and Edwardian houses on tree lined roads. Hesketh Park is surrounded by substantial villas, and Churchtown is the old village at the northern edge of the town, with older cottages near the botanic gardens. Ainsdale and the dune edge add interwar and postwar houses, and there are modern estates further inland.
These are mostly solid walled houses, so breathability matters. They also sit in a coastal climate where rooms can be cold and damp for part of the year, which affects the choice of finish and how long coats take to dry. Flats made from big villas often have a mix of old plaster and newer partitions.
Bathrooms need tadelakt or microcement on a properly waterproofed wall, not Venetian plaster inside the shower.
Send photos, rough measurements and the postcode, and we can often answer simple questions from the pictures. To price an installation we survey the walls, checking the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the room is used, access and protection. In a coastal house that often means careful attention to damp, and we say plainly if a problem needs fixing first.
When you have approved the sample and price, we agree dates. Your plaster is tinted to the sample in Birmingham before it leaves. Because thin coats need to dry between visits, it helps if the heating is on gently in colder months and other trades have finished.
