Venetian plastering in Hull

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and polished plaster, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid on Hull walls by our own applicators.

Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Hull for Victorian houses, converted warehouses, new apartments and commercial rooms. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to Hull to lay every finish, and the plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves us. The easiest way to begin is to order a sample board, or email photos of the walls and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.

Hull is a long way from Birmingham, so the work is planned in blocks of days. The team stays on site and lays each coat in order.

The homes and buildings we plaster in Hull

Hull is a port city on the Humber, and its housing tells that story. The Old Town has Georgian and Victorian merchants’ buildings around the old docks, and the Fruit Market area by the marina has seen old warehouses and workshops turned into flats, bars and offices. Those buildings tend to have brick walls, big openings and uneven surfaces.

West of the centre, the Avenues, Pearson Park and the streets around Newland Avenue are known for Victorian villas and terraces with generous rooms and bay windows. The city was heavily bombed in the Second World War, so large parts of Hull were rebuilt with interwar and postwar housing, including a great many brick semis and terraces. There are also newer estates and apartment blocks towards the edges, and by the water.

Hull is flat and low lying, with the Humber nearby, so flood risk is a real part of local life. If a ground floor has ever been wet, we need to know, and the wall must be completely dry before we begin.

Finishes that suit Hull properties

  • Marmorino for the Victorian villas of the Avenues, where solid brick walls and tall rooms suit a breathable lime finish.
  • Polished plaster for new apartments and flat plasterboard walls, where a smooth, reflective surface looks crisp.
  • Concrete effect for converted warehouses and bars, which already have an industrial character to build on.
  • Limewash for hallways and bedrooms in older terraces, where texture matters more than shine.

Hull’s interwar and postwar houses often have walls that have been replastered at some point, so a flat, sound surface is the first thing we check for. Polished work shows every dip.

How a Venetian plastering job in Hull runs

We begin from photos and then survey. The substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, how the room is used, access and protection all affect the quote. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem fixing first, we say so plainly.

Once you approve a sample and the price, dates are agreed. Your plaster is tinted in Birmingham to match that sample, and our 48 house colours or any NCS reference are available. Layers dry slowly in a cold or damp room, so gentle heating helps, and joinery and electrics should be finished first.

In the Old Town and around the marina, parking and loading can be restricted, so tell us about permits and lifts early. Every finish we lay is listed on our Venetian plaster installation page, and you can see every area we cover.

Designers, developers and decorators in Hull

For apartment schemes and hospitality fit outs, our page for designers and architects sets out how to specify a finish. If you have your own decorator, we can supply tinted plaster, base coats and wax by tracked delivery. Courses for decorators run in Birmingham, at our Venetian plaster training page.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Hull

Do you travel to Hull for Venetian plastering?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham. The work is planned in blocks of days and dates are agreed once the sample and price are signed off.

What suits a Victorian house on the Avenues in Hull?

A breathable lime finish such as Marmorino or limewash works well on solid brick walls. It lets the wall release moisture, which an acrylic film does not.

Can Venetian plaster go on a converted warehouse wall?

Often yes, once the surface has been surveyed. Rough brick or old plaster may need skimming or levelling first, and we tell you before we quote.

Can I buy the plaster and use my own decorator in Hull?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, with the base coats and wax your decorator needs.
