Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in Sheffield for stone villas, hillside terraces, converted works buildings and new city flats. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to Sheffield to lay every finish, and the plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves us. The simplest start is a sample board, or a few photos of your walls sent with the postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Sheffield is a fair way up the country from Birmingham, so we plan work in blocks of days. The same team stays and lays each coat in order, rather than travelling back and forth.
Sheffield is built on hills, and the city grew up around steel and cutlery. The western suburbs, Nether Edge, Broomhill, Ranmoor and Fulwood, are known for large Victorian villas in local stone, many now split into flats. Crookes, Walkley and Hillsborough have long runs of stone and brick terraces climbing steep streets, and Heeley and Sharrow have more terraces of their own.
The industrial past has left its own buildings. Kelham Island and the old Cutlery Quarter have works and mills converted into apartments, bars and offices, with thick brick and stone walls and big windows. Park Hill, the huge postwar concrete estate above the station, is a listed landmark that has been partly redeveloped. Around the centre you also see student blocks and newer city apartments with flat plasterboard walls.
On the edge of the Peak District, many older houses are stone built with thick walls. These need a finish that lets the wall breathe, and Sheffield’s hills can make some north facing rooms cold and slow to dry. We think about all that before choosing a finish.
For a sloping site with older terraces, a plain, breathable surface such as limewash can be kinder to the walls than something sealed.
We start from your photos and then survey. We check the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the room is used, and access and protection. We say plainly if a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem solving first.
Once the sample and price are signed off, we agree dates. Your plaster is tinted in Birmingham to match the approved sample, and there are 48 house colours or any NCS reference. Coats are thin and need time to dry between layers, so heating should stay on gently in a cold room, and electrics and joinery should be finished first.

A breathable lime finish such as Marmorino or limewash suits solid stone walls. It allows moisture to pass through, unlike an acrylic film.
Often yes, once the wall has been surveyed. Bare brick or stone may need levelling or a base first, and we tell you before we quote.
