Venetian plastering in Fulham

Marmorino, polished plaster and limewash, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid in Fulham homes by our own applicators.

Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Fulham for Victorian and Edwardian family houses, mansion flats and new riverside apartments. We are based in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel to London to lay authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash and other decorative finishes. Choose a colour with a sample board, or send photos of your walls and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.

Fulham is largely a district of family homes, many of them being extended, so we are often asked to finish rooms that are partly old and partly new.

Terraces, villas and riverside blocks in Fulham

Most of Fulham was built up in the second half of the nineteenth century, and its streets of Victorian and Edwardian terraces are among its defining features. They are usually brick, with bay windows, a raised ground floor and a modest front garden, and they sit in long, regular runs off Fulham Road, New King’s Road and Munster Road. Around Parsons Green and Hurlingham the houses are larger, and there are many mansion blocks of red brick.

The district also has older landmarks. Fulham Palace beside the river was the country residence of the Bishops of London, and Craven Cottage, home of Fulham Football Club, stands on the Thames. At Sands End and Imperial Wharf, former industrial land beside the river has been rebuilt with modern apartment buildings.

Loft conversions, kitchen extensions and basement works are common on the terraces, so one house may combine a solid Victorian front room with a new plasterboard extension at the back. We choose the preparation for each surface, so that old and new rooms can carry the same finish.

Finishes that suit Fulham homes

  • Marmorino for the front rooms and halls of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, where the solid brick walls and older plaster suit a breathable lime finish.
  • Polished plaster for kitchen extensions, loft rooms and Imperial Wharf apartments, where the walls are flat and a deep sheen will show to best effect.
  • Limewash for bedrooms, stairs and landings that need depth of colour with a matt, chalky look.
  • Travertino for a living room or hall that would suit the look of natural stone.
  • Microcement for family bathrooms and utility rooms, and tadelakt where a rounded, waterproofed finish is wanted. Venetian plaster is not for showers.

How a Fulham installation unfolds

Because London is some way from Birmingham, a Fulham job is planned in blocks of days. The applicators stay on site and apply each coat in the right order, instead of going home between coats.

The first step is photos and rough room sizes. After that we survey before giving a price, checking the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the family uses the room, and what needs protecting. A wall that needs skimming, stripping or a damp fix gets a plain explanation. Dates follow the approved sample and price. Your plaster is tinted to the sample in Birmingham, from 48 house colours or any NCS reference, before it travels.

Most Fulham streets have permit parking, so tell us where the van can stop. It also helps if building work and electrics are finished and dry before we start. Our Venetian plaster installation page lists every finish we lay, and you can see every area we cover.

Using your own builder or decorator

Many Fulham extensions are run by an architect and builder, who may already have a decorator in mind. We can tint the plaster and send it by tracked delivery, and the plasterboard guide explains how new walls should be prepared. Our courses are in Birmingham, with trade accounts for regular buyers.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Fulham

Can Venetian plaster go into a Fulham kitchen extension?

Yes, in most cases. New plasterboard walls need reinforced joints and the correct primer, and the base coats then build the flat surface a polished finish needs.

What finish suits a Victorian terrace off the New King’s Road?

Marmorino or limewash. Both are lime based, which suits solid brick walls and old plaster better than a coating that forms a film.

Do you travel to Fulham from Birmingham?

Yes. Our own applicators make the journey and stay on site for a block of days so each coat can be laid in order.

Can I order plaster for my own builder in Fulham?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it by tracked delivery together with the other materials needed.
