Venetian plastering in the East Riding of Yorkshire

Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and limewash, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid across the East Riding by our own applicators.

Home/Venetian plastering across the UK/the East Riding of Yorkshire

Zavoré provides Venetian plastering in the East Riding of Yorkshire, from market town houses and Wolds farmhouses to Victorian homes on the coast. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to the East Riding to lay every finish, and the plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves us. Order a sample board to begin, or email photos of the walls and the postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.

The East Riding is a long way north east of Birmingham, so we plan each job in blocks of days. The team stays and lays each coat in order, rather than going back and forth.

The homes and buildings we plaster in the East Riding of Yorkshire

The East Riding is a rural area of broad skies and gentle chalk hills, the Yorkshire Wolds, with the Humber to the south and the North Sea to the east. Most traditional buildings are brick, usually the local red, and roofs are often covered in red clay pantiles. On the Wolds, farmhouses, estate cottages and large country houses such as Sledmere House and Burton Agnes Hall give the landscape its character.

The market towns each have their own feel. Beverley, with its Minster, has Georgian streets and a conservation area at its heart, and Driffield and Pocklington are smaller market towns of brick houses and old inns. Howden has a fine Minster of its own and a quiet market place. Goole is a port town, and Hessle and Cottingham, on the edge of Hull, have a mix of Victorian, Edwardian and later suburban houses, and newer estates with fresh plasterboard walls.

On the coast, Bridlington is a Victorian seaside resort with boarding houses, guest houses and flats, while Hornsea and Withernsea are smaller coastal towns with a mix of older and later seaside housing. The Holderness coast is known for eroding cliffs, and low lying land near the Humber carries flood risk.

All this means very different walls. Old solid brick must breathe. Coastal homes face salt air and driving weather. Newer homes have plasterboard that needs preparing. We assess each wall before recommending a finish.

Finishes that suit East Riding homes

  • Limewash for farmhouses, estate cottages and thick brick walls, where a chalky mineral surface suits the age of the house.
  • Marmorino for Georgian rooms in the market towns and for Victorian villas in Cottingham and Hessle.
  • Clay plaster for barn and farm building conversions on the Wolds, where a natural material suits the setting.
  • Polished plaster for new builds and renovated living rooms with flat, sound walls.

For a holiday let on the coast, think about how often the walls will be touched, and choose a finish that can be repaired. We are happy to talk this through.

How a Venetian plastering job in the East Riding runs

We start with photos and then survey the walls. We check what they are made of, their flatness, cracks, damp and movement, how the room is used, and access and protection. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem fixing first, we say so. Where a house has flooded in the past, the wall must be completely dry before any decorative coat.

Once the sample and price are signed off, we agree dates. The plaster is tinted in Birmingham to the approved sample, in one of 48 house colours or any NCS reference. Thin layers need time to dry, so a cold room needs gentle heat.

Many farms and villages are reached by narrow lanes, so mention access and parking when you contact us. Our Venetian plaster installation page lists every finish, and you can see every area we cover. If you live in Hull itself, see our Hull page.

Buying plaster for your own decorator

Many East Riding homeowners already have a decorator, and we can send tinted plaster, base coats and wax tracked to your door. Our guide to preparing walls is helpful for any decorator new to the finish, and our courses run in Birmingham.

Questions about Venetian plastering in the East Riding of Yorkshire

Do you travel to the East Riding of Yorkshire for Venetian plastering?

Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham, and the work is planned in blocks of days. Dates are agreed once the sample and price are signed off.

Which finish suits a Wolds farmhouse?

Thick brick or chalk walls need a breathable finish, so limewash, Marmorino or clay plaster work well. Acrylic coatings form a film and can trap moisture.

Can you plaster a seaside flat in Bridlington?

Yes, after a survey. We check for damp and movement, and for a holiday flat we suggest a finish that can be repaired easily.

Can I order the plaster and use my own decorator?

Yes. We tint it to your colour and send it tracked, with base coats and wax.

To talk about your walls, call 07592 929191, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, or email photos and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk. A sample board is the easiest place to start.
