Venetian plastering training for the north west of England is delivered at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, so students from Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbria travel to us rather than the other way round. This page is for anyone in that region who wants to know what the courses cover and how to plan a visit.
It is aimed at decorators who want a premium service, plasterers moving into decorative work, builders and renovators, interior designers, and people retraining. No previous plastering is needed for the first course.
The north west has an unusually varied building stock, which means a trained applicator can work across several different markets without leaving the region.
In Liverpool the Georgian Quarter has tall townhouses with high ceilings that benefit from lime based plasters. Manchester and Salford have Victorian warehouses and mills converted into apartments, where flat modern linings call for polished plaster and exposed brick sits beside smoother feature walls. Chester, with its historic centre, and the market towns of Cheshire have period homes in which breathable lime finishes protect old masonry.
Further north, Lancashire's Victorian terraces and Cumbria's stone farmhouses and cottages share a need for finishes that let walls manage moisture. Around the Lake District, hotels and holiday lets are an obvious home for striking plaster feature walls. In wet rooms across the region, tadelakt and microcement offer practical alternatives to tile.
Each of these markets values something slightly different. Homeowners in period houses want authenticity, developers want a clean contemporary surface, and hospitality owners want atmosphere. The training teaches the plasters behind all three, so you can explain your choice to a client with confidence.
For a decorator or plasterer from the north west, the opportunity is to offer a skilled service that a general painter cannot match, and to price it accordingly.
Choose the Beginner Course to start from scratch, the Advanced Course to build on it, or 1 to 1 Training for a personal plan.
The Beginner Course is a full introduction, from how the materials behave to producing Marmorino, polished plaster and metallics. The Advanced Course covers artificial rock, textured Marmorino, stencil work and polishing to a high gloss. With 1 to 1 Training you can request anything from new designs to liquid metal.
Group classes are limited to six students. Look at the training page for dates, and register interest there if nothing is listed. Half the price secures your bench, with the rest paid on the day, or you can book online and pay in full.
Most people from the north west reach Birmingham by train or by car. As Birmingham is central in England, it makes sense as a training base for students from across the country, including the north.
A 3 or 4 day course means planning where you will sleep. Zavoré can point you to a partner rate at a hotel near the Academy if you quote Zavoré, and it can organise pickup from an airport or station with your booking, at a price that depends on where you arrive. Days run from 10am to 5pm and include lunch and refreshments.
If several colleagues from one firm want to train, you can speak to the team about booking benches together. The guide on training for decorators, plasterers and teams explains how that works in practice.
Back at work, you can buy Zavoré materials at trade pricing and use the course group and its lifelong helpline whenever a job throws up a question. Your finished panels become a portfolio, and your Zavoré certificate shows you have trained. Advanced students receive help finding, pricing and winning their first paid decorative job.
Zavoré also installs across the UK with its own applicators, so you can see the standard for yourself through Venetian plastering in the North West.
The courses are not held in the north west. They are taught at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, and students from Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire, Lancashire and Cumbria travel there.
A plasterer with site experience can go straight to the Advanced Course if the finishes are new to them. The Beginner Course is the better start if you want the full foundation first.
