Looking for Venetian plastering training in Coventry? The courses are taught at the Zavoré Academy in Birmingham, in the same region, so Coventry students attend there rather than in their own city. You spend 3 or 4 days learning, then take the skill back to Coventry and Warwickshire.
It is aimed at decorators and plasterers who want to broaden their offer, designers, builders who like to understand finishes, newcomers to the trade and homeowners who want to learn properly. You do not need previous experience.
Coventry is a city of contrasts, with a medieval core, Victorian suburbs and a great deal of post war building. That gives a plasterer several different kinds of wall to think about.
Spon Street is well known for its surviving timber framed buildings. Timber framed and other very old structures were made to breathe, so lime based plasters such as Marmorino suit them far better than a sealed modern coating. Owners of period property across the city and in the villages of Warwickshire often ask for finishes that respect the fabric.
Earlsdon is known for its Victorian and Edwardian terraces, and areas such as Chapelfields and Hillfields grew up around the city's watchmaking and weaving trades. Those streets are full of two and three storey brick houses with chimney breasts, alcoves and cornices, all of which reward a careful hand trowelled finish.
The city centre was rebuilt after wartime bombing, so large parts of Coventry are modern, with flat walls that suit polished plaster. Student accommodation, new apartments, hotels and offices add to the mix, and wet areas call for tadelakt or microcement.
For a Coventry decorator, Venetian plaster is a practical way to move up from paint into finishes that homeowners and designers cannot easily find elsewhere.
Most newcomers begin with the Beginner Course, and those with site experience can go straight to the Advanced Course. If you want a bespoke plan, choose 1 to 1 Training. Look on the training page for dates, and register interest there if nothing suits yet.
Days run from 10am to 5pm, with up to six students on the group courses. The Beginner Course shows you how materials behave, how to prepare a surface and apply base coats, and how to create Marmorino, polished plaster and metallic effects. The Advanced Course goes further with vein work, stencil work, tinting and coloured waxes. If your customers keep asking for one particular look, 1 to 1 Training lets you concentrate on that. The guide to the Beginner Course describes the three days in detail.
Coventry and Birmingham are both in the West Midlands, so you can come to the Academy by train or by car. Even so, a course of 3 or 4 days means early starts and full days, so some students still choose to stay overnight.
Zavoré keeps a partner rate at a hotel near the Academy, available when you quote Zavoré at booking. You can also arrange airport or station pickup with your booking for a price that depends on where you arrive. Lunch and refreshments come with every seat.
Secure your bench with half the fee, paying the rest on the day, by calling 07592 929191 or emailing sales@zavore.co.uk. Booking online means paying in full.
When you get home, you have panels of your own to show, a Zavoré certificate and trade pricing on the materials. A Coventry homeowner or designer can hold one of those panels and see exactly what you can deliver.
The helpline and private course group are open to you for life. Students on the Advanced Course also receive help to find, price and win a first paid decorative job.
