Marmorino, limewash and polished Venetian plaster for Winchester homes, tinted in Birmingham to the sample you sign off and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré undertakes Venetian plastering in Winchester for period homes, newer houses and commercial interiors. We supply authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster, Marmorino, limewash, gilding and other decorative finishes from our base in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel to Winchester to install them. If you would like to start, a sample board in your colour is the natural first step, or you can email photos of your rooms to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Winchester is a long drive from Birmingham, so the job is planned as a block of days. Our applicators remain on site throughout and lay the coats in the correct order, without breaks for travel.
Winchester was the chief city of Wessex under King Alfred, and its centre still carries that long history. The cathedral and its Close sit beside the High Street, Winchester College lies to the south, and the Great Hall survives from the medieval castle. Much of the old city is a conservation area with a large number of listed buildings.
Walk along the High Street or through the streets near the Close and you see Georgian brick fronts, older timber framed houses and flint walls side by side. Many rooms behind those fronts still have lime plaster, sometimes centuries old. Further out, Hyde, Fulflood and St Cross have Victorian and Edwardian villas and terraces, and later estates such as Badger Farm spread across the downland edges of the city.
The chalk country around Winchester, including the South Downs to the east, means flint is a common building material in the villages too. Older walls here need to stay breathable, and they rarely run perfectly flat. Modern extensions on those houses are usually plasterboard, which is flat but needs a different preparation.
On listed buildings, consent may be needed before historic plaster is changed. Ask the planning authority first, and share their guidance with us so we can work within it.
Begin by sending photos, rough measurements and your postcode, and we will answer any quick questions from those. We then survey the walls before we price the installation, checking the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, plus how the room is used, access and the protection needed. Where an old wall needs repair, stripping or a damp issue resolved first, we explain that clearly.
Once your sample and price are signed off, we book the dates and tint your plaster to the approved sample in Birmingham. In older houses, cold rooms slow the drying of lime coats, so keeping the heating on gently through the job makes a difference. It also helps to have joiners, electricians and other trades finished before we begin.
Parking in the historic centre is limited and some streets are narrow, so tell us at survey about permits and loading. Read more on our Venetian plaster installation page, or see all installations.
Many Winchester projects involve an architect or interior designer, particularly where a period house is being extended or restored. Our designers and architects page explains samples and colour matching to any of our 48 house colours or any NCS reference. Builders who use their own decorators can buy tinted materials from us by tracked delivery.

Yes, using breathable lime finishes. Check with the planning authority whether consent is needed before historic plaster is altered, and we will plan the work around their advice.
Marmorino is a good fit for solid walls and high ceilings. If the rooms have been replastered more recently, a polished Venetian plaster is also an option.
Yes. A common approach is polished Venetian plaster for a new extension and a softer lime finish in the original rooms, tinted in related colours so the two connect.
We plan it as a block of days once the sample and price are approved, so our applicators stay on site and the coats go on in order.
