Venetian plastering in Luton

Lime Venetian plaster, concrete effect and polished plaster, tinted to your colour in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators in Luton.

Zavoré offers Venetian plastering in Luton, from one feature wall to an entire home or commercial unit. We are based in Birmingham, and our own applicators travel to Bedfordshire to install authentic Italian lime based Venetian plaster and other decorative finishes. Email photos, rough measurements and your postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk, or order a sample board and compare colours at home.

Luton is a long way from Birmingham, so we plan each job in blocks of days. The applicators stay on site and lay the coats in order, and we agree dates once the sample and price are signed off.

The hat town and what it left behind

Luton was once the centre of the English straw hat trade, and the Victorian town grew up around it. Rows of brick terraced houses were built for workers in the hat factories and workshops, and many of those streets remain in areas such as Bury Park, Dallow and the roads off Dunstable Road. Wardown Park, with its Victorian house now used as a museum, is a reminder of the same period. Outside the town, Luton Hoo, the grand country house designed in part by Robert Adam, stands in its own parkland.

The twentieth century brought car making and engineering, and with them large estates of interwar and postwar housing. Areas such as Stopsley, Leagrave and Lewsey are built mostly of houses and low rise blocks. Today, the town centre also has more flats, much of it newer building.

For decorative plastering that means three starting points. Old brick terrace walls, often with layers of paint and patched plaster, interwar and postwar houses with sound plastered walls, and new flats with plasterboard. A feature wall in a modest terrace can be as striking as a full finish in a large house, because the finish does the work, not the size of the room.

Finishes that work in Luton homes

  • Venetian plaster for a living room feature wall, where a burnished surface turns an ordinary chimney breast into the focus of the room.
  • Concrete effect for flats and open plan kitchens, with a calm, industrial look that suits modern interiors.
  • Marmorino for older terraces with solid brick walls, because it is lime based and breathes.
  • Polished plaster for hallways and reception areas, once the walls are flat enough to show a polish cleanly.
  • Microcement for bathrooms, since we do not put Venetian plaster inside a shower.

From first photos to finished wall

Send photos of the walls and tell us what the room is used for. We survey before we price, looking at the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp, movement, access and what needs protecting. If a wall needs stripping, skimming or a damp fix, we say so plainly.

Polished finishes show every dip, so flatness matters, and plasterboard needs reinforced joints and the right primer. Once you approve the sample, we tint the plaster to that colour in Birmingham before it leaves us. Pick from 48 house colours or give an NCS reference. If you rent, ask the landlord or managing agent first, and in a flat check the rules on working hours and lifts.

Our installation page lists every finish we lay, and the heating should stay gently on while thin coats dry, because cold rooms dry slowly.

Developers, landlords and decorators

If you are refurbishing several flats or a commercial unit, our page for designers and architects explains how to specify finishes, and our trade accounts help with repeat orders. Decorators in the area can buy tinted plaster with tracked delivery or learn the technique on a course in Birmingham.

Questions about Venetian plastering in Luton

Can you plaster one feature wall in a Luton terrace?

Yes. A single wall is a perfectly good job. We still survey the wall first and plan the work in blocks of days.

Is Venetian plaster suitable for a rented flat?

Only with permission. It is a permanent finish, so ask the landlord first.

What gives an industrial look in a new flat?

Concrete effect. It gives a calm, matt, concrete like wall, applied over properly prepared plasterboard.

Do you supply materials to Luton decorators?

Yes. We tint the plaster to your approved colour and send it tracked across the UK.

Call 07592 929191, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, or email sales@zavore.co.uk. A sample board is the easiest place to begin.
