Lime Venetian plaster, Marmorino and polished finishes for homes and apartments across Greater Manchester, tinted in Birmingham and laid by our own applicators.
Zavoré supplies and installs Venetian plastering in Greater Manchester, across all ten boroughs from Salford, Trafford and Stockport to Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside and Wigan. We are based in Birmingham, our own applicators travel to install, and the lime based plaster is tinted to your approved sample before it leaves. The simplest start is a sample board, or photos of your walls sent with the postcode to sales@zavore.co.uk.
Greater Manchester is a big conurbation made of many towns, and each has its own building stock. We survey the wall before we recommend the finish, because a Victorian villa in Didsbury and a new apartment in Salford Quays are very different jobs.
Manchester grew into the first great industrial city, and its red brick is everywhere. Warehouses in the Northern Quarter and Ancoats and cotton mills around the canals have been converted into apartments, with tall ceilings, cast iron columns and walls of exposed brick. Beside them rise the glass towers of the city centre, and at Salford Quays and MediaCity a newer waterfront district.
In the south of the conurbation, Didsbury, Chorlton, Withington and Victoria Park have big Victorian and Edwardian villas and long streets of terraces, while Altrincham, Sale and Bowdon in Trafford are known for large villas and family houses. Wythenshawe was built as a garden suburb between the wars, and inter war semis fill much of Stockport and the outer boroughs.
North and east, the towns change character. Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Wigan are old mill towns with terraces and converted mills, and as the land rises toward the Pennines, buildings are more often built of stone. Saddleworth and Ramsbottom have stone villages and cottages. Stockport is known for its great railway viaduct and its old hat making mills.
Those walls ask different things of a finish. Solid Victorian brick and Pennine stone need breathable lime. New apartments are usually boarded and need reinforced joints and the right primer. Old mill conversions can be rough or very flat depending on how they were finished.
We begin with photos and rough measurements, then survey. We look at the substrate, flatness, cracks, damp and movement, and how the room is used. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem fixed, we tell you plainly before you decide.
You approve a sample and a price, and we then agree the dates. Larger jobs here are planned in blocks of days so the team can stay and lay each coat in order, rather than travelling back and forth. Your plaster is tinted in Birmingham to the approved sample.
In the city centre, lifts, loading bays and concierge rules are part of the plan, and parking is limited, so tell us about them early. Terraced streets often have permit parking too. Our Venetian plaster installation page explains the whole process, and our Manchester page covers the city itself.
If you are a developer fitting out apartments or a designer working on a restaurant or bar, our designers and architects page shows how to specify a finish, and trade accounts make repeat orders easier. For an existing decorator we send tinted materials tracked across the UK.
Two articles from our journal suit this area well. They are on lime plaster in period homes in Manchester and on Venetian plaster in Manchester homes and apartments. You can also see every area we cover.
Our own applicators travel from Birmingham to all ten boroughs. Send photos and your postcode and we will confirm how the job would be planned.
Concrete effect and polished plaster both work well, depending on how flat the walls are. We survey the surface first, because exposed brick, old paint and new boards each need different preparation.
Marmorino is a good match for solid Victorian walls, since it is lime and breathable. Acrylic look alikes form a film and can hold moisture in an old wall.
Yes. We tint the plaster, base coats and wax to your colour and send them tracked, and our Birmingham courses teach decorators how to lay it.
