Since Epsom is some distance from our Birmingham base, the work is set out in a block of days, with the applicators staying on the job so that every coat is laid in its proper turn.
Epsom first made its name as a spa in the seventeenth century, when the mineral water found on the common gave the world Epsom salts. Wealthy visitors followed, and the town still has Georgian and earlier houses along its older streets and around the High Street with its clock tower. A good number are listed or sit in conservation areas, and their walls are typically solid brick finished in lime.
Up on the Downs is the racecourse, home of the Derby, and between the town and the Downs are roads of substantial Victorian and Edwardian houses. Ewell keeps a village centre of its own with older buildings, while Stoneleigh and much of the surrounding suburbs are made up of 1930s semis and short terraces with bay windows and rendered fronts.
West of the town, several large Victorian hospital sites have been redeveloped into housing, where you can find new houses beside converted older buildings. That mix, from Georgian lime to interwar brick and new plasterboard, means the right finish can change from one Epsom street to the next.

Before we price any installation, we survey the walls in person to see the substrate and its condition, including flatness, cracking, damp and movement, and to understand how the room is used and how we will get in and protect the house. If skimming, stripping or damp repair is needed first, we tell you plainly.
With the sample and price approved, we settle the dates with you. Your plaster leaves Birmingham already tinted to the approved sample. Before the team arrives, any building work should be complete and dry, and in winter it helps to keep the heating on low, since cold, damp rooms slow the drying of each coat. We also sell the materials. If you have a decorator you trust, we can tint the Venetian plaster to your chosen colour and deliver it tracked with the base coats and wax. Yes. Our applicators travel from Birmingham to both, staying for a planned block of days after we have surveyed the walls and you have approved a sample.
Polished Venetian plaster works well in an interwar house once the walls are flat. If they have dips or old patch repairs, we level them with base coats or recommend a skim first.
Yes. A breathable lime finish such as Marmorino or limewash suits solid old walls, and if the house is listed the owner should check any consent before work begins.
Yes. New build walls are usually plasterboard, so we reinforce the joints and use the correct primer before the decorative coats go on.
