Bournemouth is a seaside town with a Victorian heart and a great many flats, so a lot of the work here begins with understanding the building as much as the wall.
Bournemouth grew up as a Victorian resort, laid out among pine trees and cut by the wooded valleys known locally as chines, which run down to the beach. The Victorians and Edwardians built large red brick villas, hotels and terraces on the East Cliff, the West Cliff, in Westbourne and out towards Boscombe and Southbourne, and many of those villas have since been divided into flats.
Alongside them sit interwar houses, bungalows, and blocks of apartments along the clifftops and near the town centre. Inland, areas such as Winton and Charminster have more terraces and family houses, and newer developments have filled in around the edges. Flats, both converted and purpose built, make up a large share of the housing.
That mix means the walls are very varied. Converted villas often have solid brick downstairs and newer partitions upstairs. Purpose built blocks have flat, regular surfaces, but also rules about access, noise and working hours from the management company.
We start with photos and measurements, then survey the walls. We check what they are made of, how flat and sound they are, and whether there is damp, cracking or movement. If a wall needs skimming, stripping or a damp problem fixing first, we tell you plainly.
Once the sample and price are signed off we agree dates. Bournemouth is some way from Birmingham, so we plan the work in blocks of days and the team lays each coat in order. If you live in a flat, send us the building access rules early, including lift booking, parking and permitted working hours. Parking near the seafront and the centre can be limited, so it helps to say where a van can stop.

A breathable lime finish such as Marmorino suits solid Victorian brick walls and period plasterwork. It lets the wall dry, where an acrylic coating forms a film.
Not inside a shower. For bathrooms and wet rooms we suggest tadelakt or microcement on a properly prepared, waterproofed wall.
Yes. Our own applicators travel from Birmingham and larger jobs are planned in blocks of days. Dates are agreed after the sample and price are signed off.
